Mount Sinai South Nassau's ‘Soirée Under the Stars’ to benefit cardiac care

Mount Sinai South Nassau will host its annual Soirée Under the Stars gala on Oct. 4, at The Lannin in Eisenhower Park, with proceeds supporting the hospital’s expanding cardiac program.

The evening’s theme, Bringing Heart Home, reflects the hospital’s goal to bring advanced cardiac care — including open-heart surgery — to the South Shore. The expansion will be anchored by nine new operating rooms in the Feil Family Pavilion, slated to open early next year, eliminating the need for many patients to travel to Manhattan or the North Shore for complex procedures.

Philip Shuman, vice president of The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, will be honored as corporate honoree. Whiting-Turner served as construction manager for the new pavilion, which earlier this year debuted its modernized and expanded Fennessy Family Emergency Department.

Longtime hospital benefactor and Rockville Centre resident Jeffrey Feil will receive the Heart of the Hospital award in recognition of his years of support. The Feil family’s donations have made them the hospital’s largest individual benefactor.

Two veteran staff members will also be recognized: Debbie Jonason, RN, assistant nurse manager of Cardiac Catheterization, will receive the Mary Pearson Award for her more than 25 years of service; and Arthur Golbert, senior cardiac rehabilitation exercise physiologist, will be presented with the Cupola Award for his decades of work helping cardiac patients recover and rebuild their health.

Hospital president Dr. Adhi Sharma praised the honorees as “vital to Mount Sinai South Nassau’s tradition of going above and beyond to provide cardiology and cardiovascular services,” adding that “they treat patients like their own family members.”

Funds raised will help launch new cardiac surgical services, pending state approval, and expand the hospital’s interventional cardiology program, including additional catheterization and electrophysiology labs and a CT-angiography lab. The program will be overseen in partnership with top surgeons from the Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital in Manhattan, ranked No. 2 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

The gala will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an expanded cocktail reception, followed by dinner, dancing, and live music. For tickets or sponsorship information, call 516-377-5360 or visit southnassaulifesaver.org.
