Music and fireworks set for village birthday bash

A special appearance will be made by the Leggz, Ltd. dancers and adding to the fun will be guest conductor and long-time village resident, Stan Parker. In a recent raffle by the Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts, Parker won the chance to conduct the symphony in a rousing rendition of Stars and Stripes Forever, which will be performed just before the fireworks.
Sopranos Barbara Untracht, Jill Rosenblum and Laury Tatz Herzlin will sing show-stopping tunes from Broadway musicals including the original vocal arrangements of 42nd Street, Lullaby of Broadway and Cabaret. Herzlin will be featured in the Richard Rodgers tune Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered, Untracht will solo in the comic I Cain't Say No from the current Broadway revival of Oklahoma, and Rosenblum will perform Someone Like You from Jekyll and Hyde.
The local leading ladies have all compiled impressive lists of performing credits. Specializing in opera, Herzlin has performed with various opera companies in the Metropolitan area as well as Broadway national tours, regional theatres, concerts and cabaret work. Also enjoying a very successful opera career, Rosenblum has performed many leading roles with both regional and New York area opera companies. In addition, she also has done extensive concert work. Returning to Rockville Centre audiences after her successful one-woman cabaret show, Take A Chance, Untracht continues to appear in cabaret productions at New York City's cabaret club Don't Tell Mama.
This free concert, in honor of the 109th anniversary of Rockville Centre's incorporation, begins at 7:45 p.m. with fireworks scheduled for after dark. Residents are advised to bring their own seating and picnics are encouraged.
The rain date is Sunday, July 14.
