It had long been an Oceanside landmark, and many were sad to see it change location, but Nathan’s Famous is back at its new location at 2807 Long Beach Road.
Started in 1916, Nathan Handwerker, a Polish immigrant, opened a hot dog stand on Coney Island, and charged a nickel for his sandwiches. He used a $300 loan from friends and his wife’s recipe. That first Coney Island store is still there.
The Oceanside location was the second Nathan’s. It opened in 1959.
