The Lynbrook Board of Education has appointed Maxine Bogen to serve as the district’s director of special services. She replaces Dr. Adrienne Garver, who retired after 23 years of service to the district.
Bogen received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech language pathology from Hofstra University and her school building leader and school district leader certification from Stony Brook University. She began her professional career as a speech language pathologist for the Seaford and Lawrence school districts and the Hebrew Academy for Special Children. She has also served as the 6-12 special education curriculum coordinator for the Garden City School District and as the department chairperson of special education for the Seaford School District.
Most recently served as secondary supervisor of special education for the Massapequa School District, a position she held since 2009. During her tenure, she trained, supervised and evaluated special education teachers, speech language pathologists, psychologists, social workers and teaching assistants. She also implemented an in-district high school and middle school life skills program.
Bogen was one of the founders of the local intra-district challenger basketball and soccer programs, and also organized dances for special education students.
“I lived in Lynbrook for 24 years,” Bogen said. “Both of my children attended Lynbrook Public Schools from kindergarten through their high school graduations. Since I know how much the district offered to my children, I embraced the opportunity to be part of the Lynbrook school community again, utilizing my expertise in special education to give back to other Lynbrook students. It is wonderful to see so many familiar faces. It’s great to be home!”
