The Spine Program makes NSUH at Glen Cove the only hospital on Long Island to provide chiropractors with hospital consulting privileges. The co-directors of the program, Paul Enker, MD, and Vincent Leone, MD, both board certified orthopedic surgeons with specialties in spine surgery, recognized the benefit of offering chiropractic services to patients because patients' outcomes were often improved."We're blazing trails," said Dr. Enker. "We developed relationships with chiropractors because we saw the utility of chiropractic care before or after surgery, or sometimes in place of invasive procedures." In addition, chiropractic care can be effective in relieving pain. The three chiropractors with the hospital's Spine Program are Scott Surasky, DC, of Great Neck, and Jamie Skurka, DC, and his brother, Christopher Skurka, DC, with offices in Nassau and Suffolk. The Spine Program treats both adults and children for a wide range of spinal disorder, including disc herniations and degeneration, spinal tumors, spinal arthritis, spinal stenosis and scoliosis. For more information, call NSUH at Glen Cove's Orthopedic & Rehabilitation Institute at 1-888-674-2842.
