Gerard Cairns was officially instated as the next principal of Oceanside High School by the Oceanside Board of Education April 2nd. He will be replacing current principal Jess Resnick, who is retiring, starting in September. He comes to the district from Commack High School, where he served as assistant principal since August 1999.
Prior to that position, he chaired the office of special services at Commack High School for seven years, supervising an instructional, clinical and support staff serving at-risk learners with a range of needs.
We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Cairns to Oceanside, said Superintendent Dr. Herb Brown. He shows a strong grasp of the many complex issues involved in fostering educational excellence, and helping all students to reach their full potential; he has the leadership ability to effectively manage a school building and the people skills to promote open communications among students, staff and parents.
