On Sunday, a much-needed new fire truck was christened at Patriot Hose Company 4, Freeport’s northernmost fire station.
“Earlier today, through a steady rain, Mayor Kennedy and the Village of Freeport Board of Trustees and various elected officials gathered along with the members of Patriot Hose Co 4 to christen the department’s newest piece of apparatus, unit 214. It is a 2021 Ferrara custom pumper and was designed with extensive hard work and dedication by the truck committee of Hose Co 4. The members were extremely happy to have Honorary Chief Richie Grempel on hand for this dedication and christening. We thank Mayor Kennedy and the Village Board for their steadfast support for our Fire Department and continuing to update our fleet to the state of the art, newest apparatus. Thank you to all who attended today’s ceremony at the only firehouse located directly on Sunrise Highway on Long Island.”
At the regular village board meeting on Monday night, Mayor Robert Kennedy said, “We’re proud of the new truck for Patriot Hose Company 4. It replaced a truck that was 24 years old and breaking down. Our fire department responds to over 2,500 emergency calls a year—fires, gas leaks, gas explosions, people falling down the steps—with less than 3 minutes’ response time to most calls.”
