New trees were planted along Long Beach Road in Island Park the morning of Dec. 9. County Legislator Denise Ford said this was part of a project to repopulate the area with trees to replace the ones that died in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, and the sycamore trees that succumb to disease.
Mary Studdart of the Nassau County Department of Public Works said “This has been an ongoing effort to remove over 400 dead trees and we are now in the replanting phase. These areas include Peninsula Blvd, Branch Blvd, Daly Blvd. Long Beach Rd. Lido Blvd. and Austin Blvd. To date we have planted 235 trees in said areas except for Austin Blvd.”
