New York American Water repairing large water main break in Lynbrook

New York American Water is working on fixing a large water main break in Lynbrook.

According to the utility, a large break in a 24-inch transmission water main on Putnam Avenue occurred at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. The break caused pressure issues in many Lynbrook homes, and crews isolated the main break and began working shortly after it was reported.

Pressures began returning to normal for many homeowners at about 12:30 a.m., a utility spokesman said, and pressure was fully restored around 1:30 a.m. Crews have made the necessary shutdown and started repairs, but nine customers on Putnman Avenue are impacted by the shutdown as the utility makes the needed repairs, which includes the replacement of a section of the 24-inch main.

"These customers have been notified and water has been delivered to these customers," NYAW said in a statement. "We anticipate that water service will be returned to these nine customers by 5 p.m. We apologize for the inconvenience during this challenging time for our communities."
