Cruising to Bermuda

Long Beach VFW Post 1384 is sponsoring a seven-day cruise to Bermuda on the Norwegian Dawn out of New York City on May 16, 2010. Call for Independent film and video

submissions

Film submissions are now being accepted for the Second Annual Artists in Partnership (AIP) SocialCinema Festival in Long Beach. This year's theme is "Reel Fears: What's So Scary About Differences?" AIP seeks original, independent short films (maximum 60 minutes) that explore differences between individuals, groups, communities and nations and the fear these differences can elicit. Special division will showcase work created by 7th-12th graders. Festival dates are Oct. 30, 31 and Nov. 1. Details regarding entry fees, guidelines, and awards may be found at www.aip-arts.org. Photos needed for city calendar

The City of Long Beach is looking for photography enthusiasts to submit horizontal photos of the the ocean, bay, beachfront, streets, summer, winter, spring and fall for it 2010 calendar. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 22. The photos should be submitted in high resolution JPEGs or PNGs to info@longbeachny.org. Photos can also be dropped off or mailed to the public relations office at Long Beach City Hall, at 1 W. Chester St., Room 502, by 4 p.m. on Oct. 22.

Volunteer at soup kitchen

The Long Beach Soup Kitchen seeks highly-skilled, fast paced, energetic volunteers that are pleasant, caring, and courteous to do food prep, cook, serve and clean up crews. Donate cell phones

The Lions Club of Long Beach is sponsoring an ongoing cell phone drive to collect phones to provide service men and women with free calling cards to stay in touch with their loved ones. Drop off your used cell phones at the following locations:Citibank on E. Park Avenue; Laurel Cleaners on W. Park Ave. & Laurelton Blvd.; The Whales Tale and Joe Sinona Realty, both on West Beech Street in the West End. For information, call Joe Sinona at 897-2700.

Chamber dinner dance

The Long Beach Chamber of Commerce will hold its 46th annual dinner dance at at Sands Atlantic Beach on Nov. 1 The Edmund A. Buscemi Public Service Award will be given to Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi.
