Nicki Minaj kin from Baldwin charged in child rape

The brother of hip-hop superstar Nicki Minaj has been charged in the rape of a child, records from the New York State court system show.

Jelani Maraj, 37, of Baldwin faces a charge of first-degree rape of a child under age 13.

At arraignment on Thursday, Maraj’s case was continued with bond set at $100,000.

Maraj made the news in August when he married Jacqueline Roberts at Coral House in Baldwin. The ceremony and reception were paid for by his sister.

Maraj’s mother, gospel singer-songwriter Carol Maraj is scheduled to appear at the first Baldwin Oaks Civic Association Christmas tree-lighting on Dec. 12. There is no indication yet as to whether she plans to keep that date. Carol Maraj is also the founder of the Carol Maraj Foundation, which assists victims of domestic violence.

Jelani Maraj was due to return to court Dec. 9.
