No contested races for Valley Stream school boards

Posted

There will be no challengers for any seats in the upcoming Board of Education elections in Valley Stream. The vote will take place on May 18, along with a vote on the school budget.

The deadline for petitions was Monday afternoon.

In District 13, two incumbents are seeking to return to their seats. Joseph DiSibio, who was first elected in 2007, served as board president this past year. Joan Gartner, who won her seat last year to fill a vacancy, is also running unopposed. Both are three-year terms.

Tony Iadevaio, Larry Trogel and Frank Nuara are all uncontested in their bids for re-election to three-year terms in District 24.

Jim Lavery is the lone candidate for a five-year seat, in District 30. Trustee Maria Fletcher is not seeking re-election. Lavery, the president of the Valley Stream Council of PTAs, ran unsuccessfully for a school board seat last year.

This is the second time in three years that there have been no contested races in any of Valley Stream’s three elementary school districts.

The Herald will profile all school board candidates prior to the election.
