Northwell Health has been named the most awarded health system in the New York tri-state area for five years in a row, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-26 Best Hospitals rankings.

Seven of Northwell’s hospitals ranked among the best in New York, with four earning national top-50 rankings in 26 adult specialties.

North Shore University Hospital ranked nationally in 10 specialties, including orthopedics, endocrinology, and cardiology. Long Island Jewish Hospital earned top rankings in nine specialties, while Lenox Hill placed in six specialties. Glen Cove Hospital earned one high national rank for rehabilitation.

U.S. News evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals based on data such as survival rates, discharge-to-home rates, and nursing quality. Only 152 hospitals were nationally ranked in at least one specialty.

"World-class patient care is central to Northwell Health's mission, so it is rewarding to see the hard work of our team members validated by such a strong showing in the U.S. News' Best Hospitals list," said Northwell's CEO and President Michael Dowling in a release. "Northwell is constantly evolving, whether it is bringing in exceptional talent, the latest technologies, exciting therapies or even new hospitals, as we recently did when Nuvance Health joined our health system. All of this fuels the health system to greater heights with the ultimate goals of best outcomes and outstanding patient experience."

Cohen Children’s Medical Center, part of Northwell, was recognized in 10 pediatric specialties and ranked highest on Long Island.

After Northwell’s recent merger with Nuvance Health, it now operates 28 hospitals and over 1,000 ambulatory and urgent care locations, making it the largest not-for-profit health system in the tri-state area.

Jill Kalman is the executive vice president, chief medical officer and deputy physician-in-chief at Northwell.

"These recognitions by U.S. News are a powerful validation of our commitment to excellence across the health system's entire continuum of care," Kalman said in a release. "They reflect the extraordinary talent and dedication of our physicians, nurses and staff as well as our relentless focus on delivering exceptional outcomes, advancing health equity and elevating the patient experience."

Northwell has also earned other honors; TIME magazine named it one of the 2025 “Most Influential Companies” Fortune listed it among the “Best Places to Work in Healthcare.” It was also recognized for LGBTQ+ inclusivity by the Human Rights Campaign.
