NYU Langone Health has been recognized among the safest hospitals in the nation, becoming one of just a small fraction — 4 percent — of U.S. hospitals to earn 10 straight “A” grades from The Leapfrog Group.

The distinction highlights five years of consistently high marks in patient safety and quality across multiple NYU Langone campuses: Tisch Hospital and Kimmel Pavilion in Manhattan, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island.

“This achievement is further validation of the incredible and unwavering commitment by our teams to provide top quality care, with safety at the forefront, to NYU Langone patients,” Dr. Robert I. Grossman, CEO of NYU Langone Health and dean of the NYU Grossman School of Medicine said in a news release. “Leapfrog is one of the barometers any patient should look to in determining the best place to receive their care and we are so proud of this achievement.”

Leapfrog, a national nonprofit focused on improving health care safety, issues hospital safety grades twice annually based on 30 measures tied to preventable errors, infections, injuries, and other safety risks. Out of nearly 3,000 hospitals assessed in the Spring 2025 report, only about 30 percent received an “A,” and just 36 of those were in New York State.

The health system’s newest addition, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk, is also showing progress. Formerly Long Island Community Hospital, the Patchogue facility officially became part of NYU Langone on March 1, following a three-year affiliation. Since then, it has seen a 25 percent reduction in hospital-acquired conditions and is expected to meet Leapfrog’s “A” rating criteria in the near future.

Leapfrog’s safety grades are intended to guide patients in choosing hospitals that meet the highest standards for preventing harm.
