Nassau County police arrested two Oceanside men for an incident that occurred on Aug. 7 at 4:20 a.m.
According to police, Suave Pereira, 18, and Howard Brigham, 57, both of the same address on Court Street in Oceanside, were involved in an altercation at their home. Police say that Pereira fled the scene to a nearby gas station where he purchased a cigarette lighter and gasoline. Pereira then returned to his home and allegedly poured gasoline onto the rear of the house and lit it. The fire was extinguished by several residents.
Brigham allegedly took a kitchen knife and stabbed Pereira numerous times. Pereira transported himself to a local hospital where he was treated for lacerations to his face, arm, hip and hand.
After an investigation, police located and arrested Pereira in Franklin Square at 6:15 a.m. Brigham was arrested later that day.
Pereira was charged with second degree arson. Brigham was charged with second degree assault and fourth degree possession of a dangerous weapon. Both were arraigned on Aug. 8 at First District court in
Hempstead.
