Oceanside girls soccer 3-peats as county champs

The 3-peat is complete.

Oceanside found the net less than two minutes into Thursday night’s Class AAA girls soccer final against Massapequa en route to a 3-0 win for the program’s third straight county title.

The dominating victory at Farmingdale State, which began with a Victoria Maloney goal off a cross from senior Isabella Mannino, came exactly two weeks after the top-seeded Sailors (14-2-1) were shutout in a 1-0 defeat to that same Massapequa squad in the regular season finale on Oct. 15.

“It was a loose ball and then I saw Tori in the back corner and she was open so I just crossed it to her and she had a great goal,” said Mannino describing Oceanside’s big early score to gain immediate momentum.

The Sailors will next vie for a second straight Long Island championship when they face Suffolk County champion Sachem East back at Farmingdale State Sunday at 4 p.m.

Maloney set up Oceanside’s second goal in the 27th minute when she fed a long cross to Mannino who buried a shot into the left corner for a 2-0 lead.

Two goals were more than enough for an Oceanside team that came into Thursday’s championship match allowing just four goals on the season and none in the postseason. The backline led by Madeline McMurray, Ella Hickey and Julia Blette along with goalkeeper Ella Murray maintained that dominance Thursday giving Massapequa very few close scoring chances.

Freshman Leah Auletti put the match away when she scored off a rebound following an initial save by Massapequa goalie Haley D’Oria 17 minutes into the second half for a 3-0 lead.

Third-year Oceanside coach Danielle Chiera said the previous loss to Massapequa proved to be a wakeup call for its playoff run.

“I think it forced us to look at some of the things that we wanted to work on and it really helped us to get better in the postseason,” Chiera said. “That early goal was super important, especially coming off our last game against them.”

Third-seeded Massapequa (10-4-5) reached the county finals following a 2-1 semifinal win against No. 2 Syosset on Oct. 25 in which senior midfielder Julianna Domingo netted the game-winner on a penalty kick with four minutes remaining. Senior Cassie Van Schyuler scored the Chiefs’ first goal and D'Oria recorded 13 saves.

Thursday’s loss ended a 10-match unbeaten streak for Massapequa that dated back to a 0-0 tie with Plainedge on Sept. 25.

“We gave everything we had and the better team won so it makes it even that much more impressive that we beat them a couple weeks ago,” said Massapequa head coach Bruce Stegner. “They are a potent team.”

The county crown established a true dynasty for Oceanside girls soccer, which began its three-peat championship streak by winning its first county title since 1978 with a 2-1 overtime finals win against Massapequa in 2024. The Sailors also captured the 2025 Long Island Class AAA title with a 1-0 overtime win against Northport.

“We were in a drought since 1978 and then getting it back in 2024 and now being on a streak is a surreal feeling,” Maloney said.
