Swim Races Island Park will be holding its annual swim races on Saturday, August 23 at 9 a.m. at Masone Beach. All ages are welcome to sign up. The event is only open to residents of the Incorporated Village of Island Park, residents of School District No. 31, or their family members. All applicants over 6 years must have a beach tag. Those wishing to participate can sign up at either the Village Hall or at Masone Beach, any time until the races begin.
Temple Avodah's Open House Continuing its tradition of family friendly services, Temple Avodah of Oceanside is having its special end of summer Casual Shabbat Service and BBQ on Friday, August 29 with services starting 6:30 p.m. followed by a delicious Men?s Club cooked BBQ. The Masone Beach 2008 Concert Series will continue on Saturday, August 30 when Benny & the Jets, the premier Elton John Tribute Band, takes the stage from 7 to 9 p.m. Grucci fireworks will follow the show. Masone Beach is located on Waterford Road in Island Park.
Summer Gazebo Readings The Summer Gazebo Readings will be held each Monday evening in August, and will feature four readers each evening starting at 7 p.m. They will take place at Schoolhouse Green, located on Foxhurst Road, just east of Long Beach Road, in Oceanside. Scheduled readers include some of Long Island's most prestigious poets, published authors, comedians, fiction and non-fiction writers, and local community members sharing some of their favorite literature. The Summer Gazebo Readings will be held outdoors and seating is limited, so bring a lawn chair, a blanket, a picnic table. Admission is free. Annual San Gennaro Feast The 39th annual event of the Sacred Heart Church on Long Beach Road, will take place on Thursday, Sept. 4 from 7 to 10 p.m, Friday, Sept. 5 from 5 to 11 p.m, Saturday, Sept. 6 from 3 p.m. until midnight, and Sunday, Sept. 7 from 3 to 9 p.m. As always, parishioners are preparing Italian foods. Rides, games of skill and chance, and music and entertainment will be enjoyed by all. Admission is free. The event will be held at the Sacred Heart Church located at 282 Long Beach Road in Island Park.
