Astronomy for everyone: Size and scale of the universe
Astrophysicist and former NASA consultant, Kevin Manning, introduces the infinite wonders of the universe using a high-powered telescope, weather permitting. Registration required, April 30 at 7pm.

Travel all over the world on May 13 at 2 p.m. with Pat Sommerstad by savoring the flavorful cuisine and diverse culture in your favorite city. Registration required.
Concert: The Korean "Idol"
Winners Performance
Soh Young and Friends return May 17 at 2 p.m. to feature the multi-talented champions of the International 2007 Korean Idol awards, including Oceansider Danielle Reed. Tickets required.
Computer darkroom workshop
On May 20 experienced computer users will learn how to download, retouch, and manipulate digital photographs using common applications such as MS WORD. Two workshops will be held, one from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the other from 7 to 8:30 p.m. There is a $10 fee and users should bring a digital camera and USB cable to class.

Children's Day Festivale
The Children's Day Festivale (El Dia de los Ninos) on May 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. will include: Milagros Art Exhibit - create art pieces and display as a mural, folk art/ animal figurines, masks, performing artists, bilingual storytellers, music, dance, craft tables and food.
Simply stronger

Child Identification Program
The Island Park Civic Association is sponsoring a second Child Identification program. You will receive a digital photograph and fingerprints on a CD resource and an ID card from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 9.

Baby play hooray
Pat, Laura and Molly Mouse will be on hand to give little ones ages 6-23 months their first taste of activities on May 14 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Be prepared for lots of nursery rhymes, dancing, marching and laughter.
Toddler play hooray
Pat, Laura and Molly Mouse will lead this program specifically designed for toddlers age 24 months to 5 years old from 11:15 to noon on May 14. Come sing, dance and get moving with nursery rhymes, books, music, dancing, parades and more.

Spring Auction
The Oceanside Lutheran Church, 55 Fairview Ave, is hosting its spring auction on May 1. More than 100 items are being auctioned along with special raffle items. The $5 admission fee includes two envelopes with five tickets each, coffee and cake. Doors open at 6:30pm, Drawings start at 7:30pm. For more information call 766-0136.
Bereavement support
COPE, a grief and healing organization dedicated to supporting parents and families living with the loss of a child, holds free monthly support groups meetings on the first Wednesday of every month for parents on the South Shore at the Oceanside Jewish Center. The next meeting will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on May 6. COPE also plans to start up sibling support groups on Long Island. For more information call Executive Director Karen Flyer at

Community Yard Sale
Oceanside Kiwanis is sponsoring a Community Yard Sale on May 16, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Schoolhouse Green off Foxhurst Road. Starting at 7 a.m., rent a space on the green for $20, which will be used to help send kids in need to Kamp Kiwanis this summer. For more information, visit www.schoolhousegreen.org or call 536-2200. May 14: My Big Fat Greek Night at the JCC. Celebrate the wonderful country of Greece and the Jewish way of life as Liz Ropers presents, "The History of Jews in Greece." Dinner, which will be a spread of Greek foods, is an additional $15 per person. Registration closes May 10.
May 21: The New York World's Fair: Slide show and presentation at 7:30 pm in the auditorium; non-club members may attend for $6.

In Jewish life, food plays an important role in family and holiday traditions - it often triggers cherished memories and helps connect us with our loved ones. In this workshop on May 6 at 7:30 p.m., share stories and memories revolving around food traditions in our lives, and make your own memories as we sip some wine and prepare dough for individual challah to take home. The Jazz Connection
Join Jazz musician Joe Dubs and members of his group, the Jazz Connection, on May 14 at 12:45 p.m. as they entertain and introduce audience members to the basics of Jazz.
