Library Association Meeting
The annual meeting of the Oceanside Library Association, the governing body of the library, will be held on April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the library. Incumbent trustees Florence Mensch and Ellen Sullivan are running for five-year terms. To vote at the meeting, members must be registered to vote with the Nassau County Board of Elections 30 days prior to the meeting date. Showtime: The Gin Game
The A.K. Readers Theatre performs this Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy starring two nursing home residents who battle out their differences over a mean game of gin rummy. Tickets required for the April 29 show at 2 p.m.
Astronomy for everyone: Size and scale of the universe
Astrophysicist and former NASA consultant, Kevin Manning, introduces the infinite wonders of the universe using a high-powered telescope, weather permitting. Registration required, April 30 at 7pm.
Mother/Daughter jewelry craft: Gemstone pendant necklace
Just in time for Mothers Day, moms and their daughters create a stunning necklace using a single, large gemstone piece along with an array of gemstone, glass, and metal beads. Registration required for May 5 event at 7p.m. Materials fee: $11 per

Art Lecture: Picturing America
Art Lecturer Thomas Germano provides a visual tour of the Oceanside Librarys new, permanent art collection filled with powerful, American-inspired themes on May 6 at 2p.m.
Container gardening
Oceanside Garden Club member and Master Gardener, Roellyn Armstrong, shows how to start a special little garden using an appropriate selection of containers and hearty plants on May 12 at 7p.m.
Computer darkroom workshop
On May 20 experienced computer users will learn how to download, retouch, and manipulate digital photographs using common applications such as MS WORD. Two workshops will be held, one from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the other from 7 to 8:30 p.m. There is a $10 fee and users should bring a digital camera and USB cable to class.

Pajama storytime
A bilingual English-Spanish pajama story time with songs, finger plays, nursery rhymes and stories in both languages for children ages 2-7 from 7 to 8 p.m. April 23.
Simply stronger
Certified personal trainer Marilyn Bunger will teach a low-impact exercise class on April 29 from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Please bring hand weights, soup cans or 16 oz. water bottles. Register at the Circulation Desk.
Baby play hooray
Pat, Laura and Molly Mouse will be on hand to give little ones ages 6-23 months their first taste of activities on April 30 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Be prepared for lots of nursery rhymes, dancing, marching and laughter.
Toddler play hooray
Pat, Laura and Molly Mouse will lead this program specifically designed for toddlers age 24 months to 5 years old from 11:15 to noon on April 30. Come sing, dance and get moving with nursery rhymes, books, music, dancing, parades and more.
Book adventures
An hour long program featuring stories, media, games, crafts and more for ages 5 through 10 on April 30 from 4 to 5 p.m. Register in the Childrens Room.
Reiki Circle
Join Michael La Rocco, leader of the Reiki Circle and learn the natural healing modality of Reiki on April 30 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The session will include explanations, training and treatments. Novices and Reiki practitioners are welcome. Please register at the Circulation desk.
Childrens Day Festivale
The Childrens Day Festivale (El Dia de los Ninos) on May 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. will include: Milagros Art Exhibit create art pieces and display as a mural, folk art/ animal figurines, masks, performing artists, bilingual storytellers, music, dance, craft tables and food.

Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast
The Kiwanis Club of Island Park will hold its annual pancake breakfast
on April 26 from 8 a.m.-noon at the Island Park Fire Department Exempt Hall on Long Beach Road. The price is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Money raised will help send Island Park children to Kamp Kiwanis this summer and to provide scholarships to Island Park students. The breakfast is sponsored by the Kiwanis club of Island Park and the Island Park Builders Club at Lincoln Orens Middle School. Everyone is welcome to attend. Seeing the Jewish World through Latin American Eyes
Temple Avodah Life Learning will host CUNY Professor Nora Glickman presenting Seeing the Jewish World through Latin American Eyes: on April 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Temple Avodah, 3050 Oceanside Road. Bereavement support
COPE, a grief and healing organization dedicated to supporting parents and families living with the loss of a child, holds free monthly support groups meetings on the first Wednesday of every month for parents on the South Shore at the Oceanside Jewish Center. Spring Auction
The Oceanside Lutheran Church, 55 Fairview Ave, is hosting its spring auction on May 1. More than 100 items are being auctioned along with special raffle items. First Annual Try-athalon
Distance will be measured in 20 minute intervals in running, biking, and swimming on April 26. All activities take place at Friedberg JCC Health, Fitness and Aquatics Center. The Memory Loss Tapes
This HBO-produced documentary takes an intimate look into the lives of seven individuals living with Alzheimers, each in an advanced state of dementia across the full spectrum of the progression of the disease. The showing will be on April 29 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Light refreshments and a question and answer session will follow the film.
