A career councillor and coach will guide job seekers to finding new venues for potential employment at 7 p.m. on April 27. Residents may pre-register for the event now, and non-residents can pre-register beginning April 22.
Oceanside Library Association Meeting
The annual meeting of the Oceanside Library Association, the governing body of the library, will be held on April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the library. Incumbent trustees Florence Mensch and Ellen Sullivan are running for five-year terms. To vote at the meeting, members must be registered to vote with the Nassau County Board of Elections 30 days prior to the meeting date. Dem Bums! History of the Brooklyn Dodgers
Marty Adler, founder of the Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Fame, will present an evening of anecdotes and photographs of the New York baseball team and life in Brooklyn on April 17 at 7 p.m. See photos of the Dodgers’ legendary greats: Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider, Gil Hodges, Roy Campanella — and many more. To get into the mood for baseball season, the Library will serve “popcorn, peanuts and Cracker Jacks.” Register at the Circulation Desk.
AARP Defensive Driving Program
Lower automobile insurance premiums by attending AARP's driving class on April 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants over 50-years-old may register. There is a $12 registration fee. Island Park residents will be given preference. Please register at the Circulation Desk.
Author Talk with Robert Zweig
In Honor of Holocaust Remembrance, the library will host an Author Talk featuring Robert Zweig speaking on his memoir, “Return to Naples: Thirteen Summers That Changed My Life” on April 20 from 7-8:30 p.m. As a boy in the 1960s, Zweig had a rare opportunity: every summer, he would leave his home in America and makeextended visits to his mother's birthplace — Naples, Italy. During each visit, he'd uncover new mysteries about the parents he thought he knew. There, he learned how his German father survived Auschwitz, came to Italy, and met his mother, and how the pair managed to survive the ravages of Fascism and Nazism during World War II. Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast
The Kiwanis Club of Island Park will hold its annual pancake breakfast on April 26 from 8 a.m.-noon at the Island Park Fire Department Exempt Hall on Long Beach Road. The price is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Money raised will help send Island Park children to Kamp Kiwanis this summer and to provide scholarships to Island Park students. The breakfast is sponsored by the Kiwanis club of Island Park and the Island Park Builders Club at Lincoln Orens Middle School. Everyone is welcome to attend. Town Hall Meeting in Oceanside
Hempstead Senior Town Councilman Anthony Santino will bring Town Hall to Oceanside and Island Park by hosting a town meeting on April 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Oceanside Middle School, 186 Alice Ave. Representatives from many Town of Hempstead departments will be on-hand at the meeting to discuss any issues concerning Oceanside and Island Park residents.
Bird Walk in Oceanside
Join the South Shore Audubon Society for a Bird Walk at the Oceanside Marine Nature Study Area, on April 19 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The Bird Walk is free of charge. Walk leaders and other birders and nature enthusiasts will be happy to share their knowledge and experience. In addition to resident populations, bird migrations are underway. Bring binoculars. Rain will cancel the bird walk.
“Seeing the Jewish World through Latin American Eyes”
Temple Avodah Life Learning will host CUNY Professor Nora Glickman presenting “Seeing the Jewish World through Latin American Eyes:” on April 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Temple Avodah, 3050 Oceanside Road. Free Seminar: Monitoring Your Heart After A Heart Attack

First Annual “Try”-athalon
Distance will be measured in 20 minute intervals in running, biking, and swimming on April 26. All activities take place at Friedberg JCC Health, Fitness and Aquatics Center.  Prizes to be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Light refreshments and t-shirt will be provided. Proceeds to benefit Friedberg JCC and Sunrise Day Camp. Space is limited.  Advance registration suggested. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m., and the events run from 2 to 3:30. The Greenwich Village Experience
Visit fascinating haunts of famous inhabitants, while passing beautiful townhouses, secondhand stores, multitudes of cafes and enjoy a walking tour of history and wonderment. HBO’s documentary film-
“The Memory Loss Tapes”
This HBO-produced documentary takes an intimate look into the lives of seven individuals living with Alzheimer’s, each in an advanced state of dementia across the full spectrum of the progression of the disease. The showing will be on April 29 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Light refreshments and a question and answer session will follow the film.
