Oceanside mother killed in three-vehicle crash

According to police, Susan Dauber, 46, of Oceanside was driving her 2004 Ford Explorer eastbound on Sunrise Highway when Susan Schwartz, 47, of Bellmore, lost control of her 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and struck Dauber at about 11:50 a.m. Jan. 27.
³The woman from Bellmore hit the woman from Oceanside from behind,² said Chief Mike Woodward of the Freeport Police Department.
On impact, Dauber¹s Explorer turned on its right side, slid along the road and crashed into a 2005 Volvo Diesel tractor trailer that was double parked at 375 W. Sunrise Highway. Both SUVs ended up overturned in the three-vehicle accident, and Dauber was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:55 a.m. by Nassau County Police Department Ambulance EMT Brian Matthews.
The driver of the tractor trailer was issued a parking summons for double parking but Schwartz was not charged, and both the Nissan and the Ford were impounded for brake and safety checks.
³Obviously this is a horrible tragedy, and the accident is still under investigation by the county police and homicide squad,² Woodward said.
Dauber was active in the PTA in Oceanside schools, and headed Dawn Delirium, an non-alcoholic after-prom party. She is survived by her husband, Richard, and three children, Mindy, 17, Michael, 15, and Sara, 9. Her funeral was held at Gutterman¹s Inc. in Rockville Centre on Tuesday.
