The “Iranian Schindler” is honored by Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center

The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County is hosting an exhibit of photographs and artifacts honoring Abdol-Hossein Sardari, the Iranian Envoy stationed in Paris who rescued thousands of Jews from the Nazis in parallel fashion to the famous rescue efforts of Oskar Schindler in Poland. The exhibit will be on display in the Center’s museum through December 2012.

Art Lecture: Berthe Morisot: The First Woman Impressionist

Louise Cella Caruso presents this lecture on Berthe Morisot, the first woman to be accepted and included in that elite group of painters known as the Impressionists. An extremely talented and respected painter, whose works were displayed at some of the finest salons in Paris, Berthe embraced the style of the Impressionists, taking the daring step of casting her lot with this unconventional group of artists. The talk will be held on Nov. 27 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Multimedia Lecture: POW! The History of Superhero Movies

Journalist and pop-culture expert Clive Young presents this fast-paced program which traces the evolution of super-powered cinema, from the Saturday-morning serials of yesteryear to the box-office blockbusters of today. Go behind the scenes of some the coolest movies and television shows, and explore how Hollywood’s take on superheroes has changed with the times and technologies available. The talk will be held on Nov. 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
