On May 30 the weatherman said rain, so Oceanside brought its Memorial Day ceremonies indoors to the high school auditorium. Multiple civic groups including Veteran groups attended the services in the high school auditorium. Members of the community were in attendance too.
Rev. Janet Porcher, United Methodist Church of Oceanside, pays her respects at the Oceanside H.S. Memorial. She was in Great Britain during the Battle of Britain. She said the Yankees were so very much loved for their part in making Britain and the world free. She stated freedom has a cost and America paid the cost for the world.
Chaplain Michael Wolkow offered prayers for all the fallen veterans from all the wars.
Post 5199 Commander James Veit wanted the vets in the audience to know a grateful nation appreciated their service.
Bob Pickering, the Grand Marshall of the Parade, offered his view of the sacrifice of the American veteran for our society. He said we should remember the vet's sacrifice - every day.
Rabbi Levi Gurkov of Chabad of Oceanside offered words of peace and comfort and remembrance for the veterans who gave their life so our lives could be better.
