Oceanside, Island Park Schools closed Tuesday due to snowstorm

Over eight inches of heavy snowfall blanketed parts of Long Island, on Feb. 13 , prompting Oceanside and Island Park School districts to close Tuesday classes in anticipation.

The snow began overnight and continued until 1 p.m., resulting in the highest snowfall total in two years.

“People have been accustomed to a fairly mild winter, so take all the necessary precautions," Kathy Hochul, governor of New York, said about this storm. "Stay tuned to your news. If you can work remotely, that's great. Make sure that our roads are clear for the plows as always.”

Hochul told Long Islanders to expect heavy, wet snow which will impact tomorrow's commute.

As of 12:45 p.m., the PSEG Long Island outage map shows over 2,500 customers without power
