Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center Permanent Exhibit
This contextualized history explains the 1920s increase of intolerance, the reduction of human rights, and the lack of intervention that enabled the persecution and mass murder of millions of Jews and others: people with disabilities, Roma and Sinti (Gypsies), Jehovah’s Witnesses, gays, and Polish intelligentsia. The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday, and holidays from noon to 4 p.m. Suggested donation is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors (65+) and $4 for students. Auditions for Smokey Joe's Cafe
The Island Park Theatre Group, in concert with the Island Park Union Free School District Recreations Department, announces auditions for "Smokey Joe's Cafe." Auditions will be held on Aug. 27 and 28 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Long Beach Recreation and Senior Center on Magnolia Boulevard. Performances will be on Nov. 9, 10, 16, 17 and 18. No children under 8. Be prepared to sing and dance, and bring sheet music.
AARP Oceanside Chapter Meeting
The Oceanside chapter of AARP will meet at 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 21 at St. Anthony's Church, located at 80 Anchor Ave. in Oceanside. The guest is Mr. Will Stoner, regional director of AARP. Back to School Blood Drive at NCC
Nassau Community College, in conjunction with Nassau University Medical Center, will host its 18th annual "Back to School" Blood Drive on Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the College Center Building. Make an appointment to give blood by calling Dr. Friedman at 516-572-7883, or just stop in on Sept. 13. The process takes less than an hour and refreshments will be served to participants. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old and in good health. Donors should come with some photo identification. Although small snacks will be provided, donors should eat before donating.

"I'm a Sensation" A Broadway Revue
I’m a Sensation is about a high school glee club preparing for a big performance competition. Featuring a collection of some of Broadway's most inspiring, powerful, and entertaining show-tunes and an original script. The show will be held at St. Anthony's Church, located at 80 Anchor Ave. in Oceanside, on Sept. 7 and 8 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 9 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 for orchestra seats and $10 for general seats. Art Exhibit
This month the Oceanside Library is exhibiting the works of Jeffrey Herzlich. Never one to disappoint, Jeff's latest show, entitled ICONS: STILLS, includes images of movie legends Myrna Loy, Brad Pitt, Henry Fonda and Marilyn Monroe. The prints, some as large as 3' x 4', are photos from scenes of movies and newsreels, made into drawings, and then hand painted. Fans and admirers of the portraits have commented on the interesting use of textures and the dramatic mix of colors. The exhibit will run through the end of August. Creative Writing Workshop

PlayHooray Kids
For children ages 18 months to 5 years. Music and fun for your little one! Get ready to dance, march and PlayHooray with your toddler or preschooler! This fun-filled music and movement program will have everyone up and moving to the beat! Register in the Children's Room. You cannot attend both sessions, only one class per week. The first session will be held on Aug. 21 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and the second session will be held on Aug. 23 from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.

Mission to Cuba
Join the Friedberg JCC on a mission to Cuba. The program includes six nights in Havana and a two-day (one-night) stay in Cienfuegos with a visit to Santa Clara. Travel with us as we learn about the Jewish community in Havana and some of the outlying provinces; visit Sephardic and Ashkenazi Synagogues; and meet Jewish community leaders.
