Off-duty cop finds suicide victim

The Rockville Center police officer went to check on his boat docked at the marina near the Baldwin Bridge off Brower Avenue, when he found the body parts and, eventually, the body.
The officer noticed some suspicious looking matter, and he noticed what he believed to be skull, Sgt. Bill Miller of the Fourth Precinct told the Herald. And he looked at the boat next to him and saw more matter on that boat. And there-s a canvas on that boat that had a rather large hole through it. So he boarded the boat next to him, looked underneath the canvas, and discovered a body.
The victim was identified as a 36-year-old East Rockaway man. Miller said the man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He apparently took a .4570 caliber, long-barreled rifle to his head and fired. It is a very high caliber gun, and he actually blew off the top of his skull, Miller revealed.
Police said they are not sure when the man took his own life.
The victim neither owned the boat on which his body was found, nor had he any relationship or connection to the actual owner.
It appears he chose the boat at random, Miller said.
