"No Easy Walk to Freedom,"a full-length opera based on the life of South African President Nelson Mandella by composer Chandler carter, will receive its world premier at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse. The fully-staged performance features a cast of seven singers, dancers and a chamber orchestra. Tickets are $15. Call the Hofstra Cultural Arts Center at 463-5669.

The John Pizzarelli Trio, featuring Ray Kennedy (piano) and Martin Pizzarelli (bass), will perform two concerts at to benefit the Hofstra Marching Band Scholarship Fund. Blood drive. In order to help alleviate the current blood shortage on Long island, Mercy Medical Center will be holding and emergency blood drive in the Staff Education Classrooms, located in the basement of the St. Anne's Center. Any healthy individual over 110 pounds and between the ages of 17 and 76 may donate blood. Donors should have eaten and should bring reading glasses and ID. Stained glass exhibit. Stained glass artist Bill Hergenrother will display his work at the Rockville Centre Public Library. A recently retired engineer, Mr. Hengenrother's retirement afforded him the opportunity to pursue his long interest in stained glass art.

The Rockville Centre Chapter of The Compassionate Friends, an international self-help support group for families grieving the death of a child, will join together in lighting candles at Robert E. Purick Pocket Park, on the corner of Merrick Avenue and West Loines Ave., in Merrick. The worldwide candle lighting event brings tens of thousands of families, united in grief, together on the second Sunday in December.
