Baldwin Public Library board meeting will be held on May 18 at 7:00 p.m. at 2385 Grand Ave.

Chamber of Commerce will hold their next monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 17 at the Old Venice Inn 12:30 p.m.

Fire District meetings are held at the Baldwin Fire District Headquarters, 2386 Grand Avenue, on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m.

Sanitary District No. 2 holds monthly meetings at the district offices at 2080 Grand Ave., on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 5 p.m.

Kiwanis Club meetings are held weekly at the Coral House, 70 Milburn Avenue, on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.

Rotary Club meetings are held weekly at the Coral House, 70 Milburn Avenue, on Thursdays at 12:15 p.m.

Book reviewers club. For students in grades 1-6, write a review or draw a picture about a selected book for your grade and receive a special prize. The spring book report is due on May 1. Stop by the library to pick up the required book; report forms are available at the children's desk. For grades 3-6, two submitted reviews during this school year are required to receive an invitation to the annual pizza party.

Vaudevillian silent clown, Chip Bryant, brings to life the world of playful conflict and wonder in his original, fast-paced, one-man physical comedy show for the whole family. The event will take place on Monday, April 25 at 2:30 p.m. and include an artful blend of mime, clowning, juggling, magic, puppetry, music and audience-interaction improvisation.

Bus tour and recital at Caramoor, a Mediterranean-style palazzo located in the historic Hudson River Valley, on Wednesday, June 1. Enjoy Caramoor's lush gardens before enjoying a recital of classical music. Afterward, take an indoor tour of Carmoor's European art and antiques. The trip will be capped off with lunch at Crabtree's Kittle House Inn. Lunch choices are roasted chicken, roast angus beef or fillet of north atlantic salmon. The cost of the trip is $78 per person. Registration is required. Tickets are non-refundable. The bus will leave at 8:15 a.m. from the employee parking lot, located behind the library. In order not to monopolize spaces in the regular Town of Hempstead parking field, library patrons are asked to park in the firehouse parking lot across the street from the library. Approximate time of return is 5:30 p.m.

Special Events



Baldwin Historical Society is holding a special program titled, "The History of the American Dollar." Bruce Lister will speak about the background of our currency on Thursday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Spring carnival hosted by the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for April 21-24. Hours of operation will be 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 1 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The carnival will be held on the north side of the Baldwin train station. Food, rides and children's entertainment will be offered.

Operation SPLASH, a non-profit organization dedicated to stop polluting and littering and save harbors is holding their first monthly meeting of the season on Tuesday, May 3 at the Freeport Rec Center, 130 East Merrick Road, at 7:30 p.m. For more info, call 378-4770.

Passover Seder celebration is open to all at the Friedberg JCC in Long Beach. For more than 20 years the JCC has been providing traditional holiday meals and entertainment for hundreds of residents on the south shore of Long Island. Spring fling at Eisenhower Park hosted by the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau on May 4 from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Carltun on the Park Restaurant. Family night at the races. The Baldwin American Legion Post 1051 hosts a full-course dinner and horse-racing event on every first Friday of every month, the next date is May 6. Spring rummage sale. The United Methodist Church, 40 Washington St. in Baldwin, is having its annual rummage sale on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Many items will be offered including attic treasures, clothing, linens, furniture, hardware, toys, books, games and home-baked goods.

Theatre brunch produced by Plaza Theatrical Productions will be presenting Sunday champagne brunch and theatre musicals at RVC's Best Western Mill River Manor (formerly the Holiday Inn). Buffets begin at 11:30 a.m. On Sunday, June 12, Plaza will present the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, "South Pacific!" This fully-staged production features such award-winning songs as "Some Enchanted Evening," "A Wonderful Guy," "Happy Talk," "Younger than Springtime," "Nothing Like a Dame" and "Wash that Man."

Spotlight on seniors

Library days. Thirty new books are delivered every Monday and Friday of the month at 10 a.m. for those seniors in the community who have a hard time getting to and from the library.

Painting classes are held every Monday at 10 a.m.

Lunch special. A hot lunch is served every Monday and Friday for $2 at noon.

Bingo is played on every Monday afternoon at 12:45 p.m.

Arts and Crafts class is held every Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Exercise with Wayne Kelly at 1 p.m. every Tuesday.

Show group entertainment. Talented members of the senior center sing, dance and produce a show every Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Line dancing classes are held every Friday at 10 a.m.

Western ho-down dance with line dancing on Wednesday April 27 at noon. Tickets are free, but reservations must be made in advance.

Monthly birthday/anniversary party on Wednesday, May 4 at 1 p.m.

Weekly lecture series for senior residents, featuring guest speakers is free and open to the public. The Golden Learning Opportunities for Seniors program will provide an opportunity for seniors to learn about a variety important and interesting topics. All programs will take place at the Merrick Senior Center located at 2550 Clubhouse Road at 1 p.m. Using credit cards, presented by the New York State Banking Department on Thursday, April 21. Skin care for seniors, presented by Dr. Eve Lowenstein of South Nassau Dermatology on Thursday, April 28.

At the schools



Annual district meeting and school budget hearing at the district office on May 3 at 8 p.m. This will be residents' last chance to ask questions or discuss issues about the budget before the May 17 vote.

Candidates forum, sponsored by the Baldwin PTA, will be held at the district office on May 4 at 8 p.m. Candidates for election to the school and library boards will speak and residents will have the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer period.

Wheelchair basketball game fund-draiser at the Meadow School, 880 Jackson St., from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. $3 admission. Refreshments and door prizes available. The Nassau County Kings team will play the Meadow School faculty in a wheelchair game for charity. Proceeds will good in part to the Nassau County Kings and another portion will be set aside for field trips for Baldwin special education students.

Six-grade concert at the middle school, 3211 Schreiber Place, on Tuesday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Board of Education election and budget vote on Tuesday, May 17 at the high school, 841 Ethel Kloberg Drive. The high school will be the ONLYpolling place throughout the community but they will be open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Spring concert at the high school on Wednesday, May 18 at 8 p.m.

Concert including the district band, chorus and high school ensembles on May 21 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at the high school, 841 Ethel Kloberg Drive.
