Baldwin Public Library board meetings are generally held every third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the library, located at 2385 Grand Avenue. For more info, call the librarian-in-charge Catherine Overton at 223-6228.

Fire district meetings are held at the Baldwin Fire District Headquarters, located at 2386 Grand Avenue, on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m.

Sanitary district No. 2 monthly meetings are held at the offices of the district, located at 2080 Grand Avenue, on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 5 p.m.

Kiwanis Club meetings are held weekly at the Coral House, 70 Milburn Avenue, on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.

Rotary Club meetings are held

Public Libraries



Baldwin Public Library 2385 Grand Avenue 223-6228

Due to renovations, the library will be closed to the pubic through Monday, March 7.

Free AARP tax assistance. The library is offering free AARP tax assistance on a first-come, first-served basis on Mondays and Fridays through April 8. Hours on both days are from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. This service is available to all low- and middle-income people with an emphasis on, but not limited to, senior citizens.

Luncheon/theater trip. The library is hosting a trip to the Villa Luncheon Theatre in Mountain Lakes in New Jersey to see Concert, Cabaret & Chicago on Tuesday, March 22. The bus leaves from the employee parking lot behind the library at 9:15 a.m. sharp. $68 tickets include lunch, transportation and entertainment. Register at the adult reference desk. Tickets are non-refundable. Park in the firehouse parking lot across from the library. Approximate time of return is 5:30 p.m. For more information, call Angie Schenker at the library.

Income tax assistance. Free help is available Monday mornings for seniors and Tuesday evenings for everyone else. FOR SENIORS: Through April 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. NON SENIORS: Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Bring copies of last year's federal and state returns, instruction booklets with label, all 1099 and W-2 forms and property tax bills.

Religious Events



Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1375 No. Grand Avenue, will host a "World Day of Prayer" with representatives from 12 churches in Baldwin, Freeport and Roosevelt on Friday, March 4 at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend a service of prayer and song. An offering will be taken to support the ongoing work of Church Women United, an ecumenical movement working for peace and justice. Refreshments will be served. South Baldwin Jewish Center, 2959 Grand Ave., will lead their annual Jewish National Fund Drive on Sunday, March 6. For more info, call 223-8688.Their annual Shabbaton, featuring Rabbi Beuven Hammer, teacher and author, who will be discussing "God, Israel and U.S.: New Thoughts... New Challenges" will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 18 & 19. Call for reservations. Garage sale to benefit terminally ill children hosted by the So. Baldwin Jewish Center on Sunday, March 13 from 11 a.m. until 3 pm. Tables are for rent at $20 each. Tables are limited so call to reserve. You set up and clean up. Raffles, food and fun for the entire family. The center is trying to arrange for a pick-up service to cart away items that do not sell.

Boy Scout open house. Troop 54 of Baldwin/Freeport will host an open meeting for boys ages 11 to 17 at the Steel School gym, 860 Church St., at 8 p.m. The troop meets every Monday night that school is in session.Learn about scouting programs like camping, community service and special trips. St. Pat's lunch at South Nassau Christian Church. The women's club will hold a St. Patrick's Day luncheon on Tuesday, March 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the Coral House on Milburn Avenue. Seth Purdy will showcase miniature villages, music will be provided by Ray Santana and dramatization of a biblical story by Karen Mercaldo will be part of the program. Games and gifts. Painting classes are held every

Lunch special. A hot lunch is served every Monday and Friday for $2 at noon.

Bingo is played on every Monday afternoon at 12:45 p.m.

Line dancing classes are held every Friday at 10 a.m.

Library days. Thirty new books are delivered every Monday and Friday of the month, at 10 a.m., from the Baldwin Public Library, for those seniors in the community who have a hard time getting to and from the library.

Safe boating classes. Hosted by the South Shore Power Squadron, and held at the Baldwin High School, classes provide participants who pass with a certificate that meets 2005 boating requirements for NYS for personal water craft. Art auction to benefit the Baldwin Council Against Drug Abuse and the Concerned Parents of Baldwin will be held on Wednesday, March 23 at the Coral House, 70 Milburn Avenue. $25 admission includes wine, soda, cheese, crudite and fruit. 160 pieces of art, memorabilia and glass will be presented. In the schools

Continuing education program. Exciting new classes and returning favorites are being offered for spring 2005. Most classes are held at the high school. In-person registration will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 1 and 2 at the high school's commons area between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The semester begins on March 14 but to avoid disappointment register early. Annual legislative forum sponsored by the Baldwin Council of PTAs on Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. at the Baldwin Senior High School, 841 Ethel T Kloberg Drive, Cafeteria B. Federal, state and local legislators have been invited to speak to the community, followed by a question-and-answer period.

School/business advisory breakfast. Businesses are invited to discuss school-to-career events for the district. The breakfast will be held on Tuesday, March 1 in the high school library from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. RSVP to Pat Banhazi at 377-9227 or Maryann Esposito at 377-9306.

Baldwin teacher center offers courses. Some in-service courses will be open to members of the community and offered at no cost.
