Seeking Korean War vets
The Joint Veterans Organization of Long Beach (American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jewish War Veterans and the Am. Vet) want to honor all Korean War veterans. The organization would like them to be marshals in the 2009 Long Beach Memorial Day. Anyone belonging to the posts or living on Long Beach island are invited to be guests for this parade. Pot luck dinners
St. Mary of the Isle Church will host pot luck dinners every fourth Friday of the month starting on Feb. 27. The dinners will be served between 6:30 and 9 p.m.

BACH gala dinner The BACH Jewish Center will hold its 2009 annual dinner at 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. This year's esteemed honorees are Aliza and Steven Siegel, Dr. Roger and Sarah Kasendorf, Erika and Richard Prafder, Steven Bernstein and Josh Fitterman. A Mad dinner and fashion show
The Long Beach High School seniors will take the runway at the high school auditorium and model the latest in prom fashions at 7 p.m. on March 5. The fashion show is held each year to benefit the high school PTSA Morning Madness program. Morning Madness is the alcohol and substance-free, "all night" after-prom party which is held for all LBHS seniors and their dates and is absolutely free. Food drive
Contribute to the food drive to benefit the Long Beach Soup Kitch at the Evers Place Gallery, 949 W. Beech Street, on March 6. A silent auction will be held with art being donated by local artists. Refreshments will be provided courtesy of Surf City Pizza and Dunes Deli. ALL proceeds from the auction will go to the Long Beach Soup Kitchen.
Irish concert

Purim carnival

Discipline is not a dirty word
The JCC's Parenting Resource Network is offering the following parents a program of a practical approach to positive discipline, involving the practice of seven basic child development principles. The three session series to be held on March 12, 19 and 26. The Friedberg JCC Long Beach branch is located at 310 National Blvd. The fee is $35 for three sessions. Maccabi Games tryouts
The Friedberg JCC in Oceanside, at 15 Neil Court, is holding tryouts for its 2009 JCC Maccabi tennis (coed), boys basketball and swim (coed) teams. Gatsby age mansions
The Long Beach Island Landmarks Association presents "The Gatsby Age Country Estates," in whichhistorian and author Paul J. Mateyunas cover larger-than-life residents and their estates celebrated in literature, on-stage and on-screen with vintage photographs of the grand homes and lushly landscaped grounds that made the North Shore famous during the Roaring Twenties. This event will start at 2 p.m. on March 7.
