Meeting of the civic The West End Neighbors Civic Association will meet next at 7p.m. on Nov. 24 at the Knights of Columbus on West Beech Street. Guest Speaker will be City Manager Charles Theofan, who will give an update on the parking proposal and illegal rentals.
Christmas Angel dinner party The Long Beach Christmas Angel, a charity that assists families in financial crisis in the Long Beach school district, will host its annual Holiday Dinner Party at Bridgeview Yacht Club in Island Park on 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. Tickets are $100.00 and advanced reservations are required. Caregiver support groups The new JASA Caregiver Resource Center in Nassau County is up and running. As part of this service, JASA will offer caregiver support groups in the Long Beach area at Temple Emanuel, 455 Neptune Blvd., the second Monday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m.
Hebrew readings Lido Beach Hadassah continues Hebrew readings on Tuesday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m. If you don't read Hebrew, there will be an accelerated beginners class on Tuesdays from 12 to 1 p.m. Both Classes are offered at Lido Beach Synagogue. Art and photography show "Picture Clean Oceans" and is going to be held on Dec. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Evers Place gallery, at 949 West Beech Street. Wine will be served and music will play during a silent auction for the displayed works. All of the auctions proceeds will be donated to the Long Beach High School Surf Club to use in their ocean and beach conservation and preservation efforts.
Horse and carriage ride Long Beach Island Landmarks Assoc. is featuring a horse and carriage ride through Long Beachs historic red brick district every 20 minutes from 2 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 6. Five centuries of great duets
Rising star Kathryn Wieckhorst joins veterans Helene Williams and Leonard Lehrman, both formerly with the Metropolitan Opera , in a program of great duets at 2 p.m. on Dec. 6. Hear selections from Purcell through Mozart, Puccini,great German and Russian classics (Mendelssohn, Brahms, Tchaikovsky) into the20th (Prokofiev, Bernstein, Blitzstein) and 21st centuries.
Live theatre At 2 p.m. on Nov. 30, the library will host a production of the play, Visiting Mr. Green, staring Joseph Dobkins and John Torres of Lantern Theatre Productions. What starts as a comedy about two men who do not want to bein the same room together, becomes a gripping and moving drama as they get to know each other and come to care about each other.
Fitness for older adults Magda Rosenberg, exercise physiologist, will conduct physical fitness routines for older adults at 9 a.m. on Fridays.
World Music Band At 2 p.m. on Dec. 7. , the library will host a band that will play music from around the world, from Bach to Bollywoodan eclectic blend of Indian music, interspersed with narratives and western classical music. This program is made possible, in part, with funds from the N. Y.State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, administered by the LongIsland Arts Council at Freeport.

Adult yoga The Rec is offering a yoga/pilates class at the Teen Center (above the Ice Arena) on weekday evenings and weekend mornings this fall. Registration is currently taking place at the Recs swimming pool located on Magnolia Boulevard and West Bay Drive in Long beach. The registration fee is $50 for Long Beach residents and $100 for non-Long Beach Residents.
Wrestling registration The Rec wrestling program is slated to begin the first week of December with two days a week of instruction offered to children ages 7 to 12. The program staff is holding an orientation meeting on Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Long Beach Middle School cafeteria; practices to begin Dec. 8. Youth basketball registration The Rec Dept. is accepting applications for its Youth Basketball Program, designed for boys and girls ages 5 to 15 who reside in the Long Beach School District. There is a 5 - 6 Program that will meet on Saturdays at the Middle School gymnasium. The 5 - 6 boys will meet at 12 p.m. and the 5 - 6 girls will meet at 1 p.m.There is a Pee Wee Boys and Pee Wee Girls Division for 7, 8 and 9 year olds. There is also a Junior Boys and Junior Girls Division for 10, 11 and 12 year olds. Thereis also and Intermediate Boys Division for 13, 14 and 15 year olds.
