Used book sale
The Friends of the Rockville Centre Public Library is holding its annual used book sale. A huge selection of gently-used books will be available for all ages. The sale is being held in the large meeting room in the lower level at the Library through March 15. Sale hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All proceeds will directly benefit the Library. Beauty and the Beast
Sacred Heart Academy presents Disney's Beauty and the Beast on March 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $10 for advanced sales and $15 at the door. Central Synagogue of
Nassau County,
430 DeMott Ave.,invites the community to a free lecture on March 14 when Rabbi Capers C. Funnye Jr., Chief Rabbi of an Ethiopian Hebrew congregation in Chicago visits to present "Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel: Marching for Social Justice." These two men, a reverend and a rabbi, forged a devoted friendship based on their civil rights activities in the 1960s. Their belief that those activities expressed fundamental values of their religions was a binding force. Rabbi Funnye will be a guest at services starting at 9:30 a.m., refreshments will be served at 10:30 and the lecture starts at 11 a.m. The community is invited to all or part of the morning's events. The Fortnightly Club

St Baldrick's Fundraiser
To benefit and support research and children with cancer, the community is invited to participate in the 5th annual head shaving event after the RVC St. Pat's Parade on March 21 from 1:30 - 5:30 p.m. at the St. Agnes Parish Center.
Concert
The Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts presents the South Shore Symphony, under the direction of Scott Jackson Wiley, playing Beethoven's Third Symphony "Eroica" and Bizet's Symphony in C. Craft Fair and Flea Market
The John A. Anderson Recreation Center, 111 N. Oceanside Road, will be the site of the Rockville Centre Parks and Recreation Department's Annual Spring Craft Fair and Flea Market on March 22. Lavender League
The Long Island Pride Sports Association announces the 12th season of the Lavender League, Long Island's only co-ed softball league serving the Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgendered (GLBT) communities. All ages (18+) and skill levels are welcomed and encouraged. Practice begins in April, and games begin in May. In addition to players, the league is searching for team sponsors. Summer Playground and Summer Rec. programs
Summer Playground for students in grades 1-6 and Summer Rec. for students 7-8 (in Sept. 2009) offered at the Rec. Center, Hewitt and Wilson schools. Staffed by trained recreation personnel, they meet Monday-Friday 9 a.m-noon from July 1 through Aug. 6. Daily activities include athletics, arts & crafts, recreation games and special events. Afternoon trips include a Mets game and Splish Splash for middle schoolers.
Seasonal staff
Residents who are at least 16 may apply to work as seasonal recreation leaders this summer. Supervisors will interview qualified applicants in April. Pre-employment questionnaires are available at the Rec. Center.
Men's and Women's Softball
The Recreation Dept. currently has Spring Softball information for men's teams. Games will tentatively start March 23. Information for Summer Softball for men and women will be available in mid-March.
Summer Basketball League

2009-10 Nursery School
Designed to meet the needs of the community, the Rec center is again offering its nursery school programs that have operated continuously for 47 years. Prospective students may visit with their parents. Call the Rec. Dept. office at (516) 678-9339 to make arrangements.
Eligibility: Pre K- for those entering kindergarten in Sept. 2010. Pre-Pre K for those entering kindergarten in Sept. 2011. Class offerings: PreK I classes 9-11:20 a.m. (5 days per week) ; PreK II classes 12:15-2:45 pm. April 23 and 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (you must attend both nights). This class is open to Sandel members and RVC residents 60+. Sign-up in person at the Sandel Center with a check for $10 payable to AARP and a copy of your drivers' license. Space is limited. First come, first served.

This group seeks to provide caregivers with information, daily coping and caregiving strategies aimed at improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their caregivers. Upper Room Meal
The United Church of Rockville Centre, 430 Morris Ave., invites the community to an "Upper Room Meal" on April 9 at 7:30 p.m. This commemorates Jesus' Last Supper with his disciples when they gathered for their Passover meal. Capturing the spirit of their last time together, the meal is partaken in a quiet, meditative environment where several reading from the gospels representing some of Jesus' more significant teachings are offered. It is a time to listen, reflect and remember. There is no charge for the meal.
