Empire Safety Council's Defensive Driving Course

Free Seminar on Home Foreclosure
sponsored by the Nassau County Bar Association, will be held on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at its headquarters on 15th Street and West Street in Mineola. Used book sale
Starting Feb. 28, the Friends of the Rockville Centre Public Library will hold its annual used book sale. A huge selection of gently-used books will be available for all ages. The sale is being held in the large meeting room in the lower level at the Library through March 14. Sale hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All proceeds will directly benefit the Library. Central Synagogue of Nassau County,
430 DeMott Ave.,invites the community to a free lecture on March 14 when Rabbi Capers C. Funnye Jr., Chief Rabbi of an Ethiopian Hebrew congregation in Chicago visits to present "Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel: Marching for Social Justice." These two men, a reverend and a rabbi, from very different backgrounds, forged a devoted friendship based on their civil rights activities in the 1960s. Their belief that those activities expressed fundamental values of their religions was a binding force. Rabbi Funnye will be a guest at services starting at 9:30 a.m., refreshments will be served at 10:30 and the lecture starts at 11 a.m. The community is invited to all or part of the morning's events. Computertots
This program offers extraordinary computer education classes in which children will learn computer terminology and use. Children work on the computer in small groups with early childhood computer teachers and use a variety of exciting software and peripherals, such as a digital camera and a computer microscope. Children will develop self-confidence by using the computer as a tool for learning. Classes begin in January and run once a week. The classes are geared for ages 3-5 and run for 30 minutes. Mondays after school:
"Build Something Cool That Moves" Join the group as they explore, investigate and solve problems while learning about the building blocks of engineering - simple machines. This exciting hands-on engineering class uses Lego Education materials to explore motorized simple machines by building realistic models. Students work in pairs to creatively solve challenges, using concepts learned in class. This class is for children in 2nd-4th grades. Note: No computers are used for this class.
Tuesdays after school:
Crime Scene Investigation Use logic, senses and forensic science to solve crimes. Learn how to work the field scene and the laboratory end of CSI. Students will use finger painting, tire tread patterns and more. Each lesson will focus on a new forensic skill which will lead to solving a final investigation. No blood, no gore... but excitement galore. Class is for students in 2nd-4th grades.
Totally Technology Build skills
create projects and have fun, too. Students will be introduced to a variety of technology programs and learn important technology skills, such as graphics, programming, the digital microscope and robotics, as they create their own projects and conquer the age of technology. This class is geared for students in grades K-2.

Video Game Animation
Students will dive into the world of video game animation by creating characters that dance, sing and interact with one another. They'll add sound effects and music clips to create a dynamic video animation game using Scratch, the innovative programming language created just for kids by the MIT Media Lab. Creativity rules in this fun version of video game design. Class is for students in 2nd-4th grades.

Open Gym Schedule
Open gym for grades 4 and up began in October. Open gym is free play basketball in the main gymnasium of the Rec. Center. Admission is by valid recreation card. The gym will be open for basketball Saturday afternoons from 2-4:30 p.m., for grades 4 and up. The evening open gym, for grades 6 and up, is from 7:30 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.

Aerobic Exercise
Aerobics classes are offered by Nancy's Aerobics on Mon., Tues. and Thurs. evenings from 7 p.m to 10 p.m.. Classes are on-going and can be paid for daily ($5 per person). Classes are conducted in the Rec Center gym.
Square Dancing
With nationally known caller Lee Kopman takes place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7 - 10 p.m. Fee: $5 per person. on-going.

Special Needs Masses at
St. Agnes Cathedral
These Masses are especially for families with children who have developmental disabilities. Families with special needs children often find it difficult to attend weekly Mass together. These Masses give these families the opportunity to celebrate God's presence in their lives together. Children and adults with special needs will be filling as many liturgy positions as possible. All are invited to come take part in this special liturgy. The Masses are at 5 p.m., in the Lower Hall (which is handicapped accessible) on: Jan. 24, Feb. 28, March 28, April 25 and May 30.
