First annual Joseph P. Altman Holiday Tournament Dec. 26 - Dec. 28 in the St. Agnes Parish gym. The St. Agnes CYO will be hosting the annual St. Agnes 6th grade CYO Boys Christmas Basketball Tournament, to be played in honor of Joseph Altman, former head of St. Agnes CYO, There will be up to 16 teams from the diocese, made up of 10-12 11-year-old boys. To raise money for the CYO program, sponsors will publish a commemorative journal. The community is invited to support the program and come out to root for the boys while watching great basketball. Hanukkah Party -Children from pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade of all faiths are invited to the annual party sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women and the Recreation Department on Monday, December 22 from 4-5:15 PM. Crafts, face painting, snacks and Chanukah music. Children are encouraged to donate a small unwrapped gift.

Annual Mitten and Hat Tree
Once again, the Parks and Recreation Department is requesting that residents share their warm holiday feelings with those less fortunate. Beginning Dec. 3, donated mittens and hats of every color and size will be hung on our "Mitten and Hat" tree, in the Recreation Center lobby.
Food Donations are needed for the needy of our village. The Rec. Dept. is collecting canned and dry goods, as well as frozen turkeys and coupons. Bring your donations Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. prior to Dec. 19.
Have a Heart Toys for Tots - Dodgeball Tournament Bring a new toy for entry into our tournament in this exciting team sport. Teams of at least 6 players, in grades 9 and up, will play in a round-robin format starting at 4 p.m.. Rosters are available at the Rec. Center Office.
Toys for Tots Square Dance - Dec. 21 from 7-10 p.m. World famous caller Lee Kopman will be the master of ceremonies. Admission is one new unwrapped toy.
Roll around play days The Roll-Around set-up will be available 9:15-10a.m. for children ages 1-4 on Dec. 24,26,27,29,30,31 and Jan, 2 & 3. of the holiday recess. Parents must accompany children . The fee is $7.00 per family per session. No pre-registration is required. Please -No older children.

Computertots This program offers extraordinary computer education classes in which children will learn computer terminology and use. Children work on the computer in small groups with early childhood computer teachers and use a variety of exciting software and peripherals, such as a digital camera and a computer microscope. Children will develop self-confidence by using the computer as a tool for learning. Classes begin in January and run once a week. The classes are geared for ages 3-5 and run for 30 minutes. Mondays after school: "Build Something Cool That Moves" Join the group as they explore, investigate and solve problems while learning about the building blocks of engineering - simple machines. This exciting hands-on engineering class uses Lego Education materials to explore motorized simple machines by building realistic models. Students work in pairs to creatively solve challenges, using concepts learned in class. This class is for children in 2nd-4th grades. Note: No computers are used for this class.
Tuesdays after school:
Crime Scene Investigation Use logic, senses and forensic science to solve crimes. Learn how to work the field scene and the laboratory end of CSI. Students will use finger painting, tire tread patterns and more. Each lesson will focus on a new forensic skill which will lead to solving a final investigation. No blood, no gore... but excitement galore. Class is for students in 2nd-4th grades.
Totally Technology Build skills, create projects and have fun, too. Students will be introduced to a variety of technology programs and learn important technology skills, such as graphics, programming, the digital microscope and robotics, as they create their own projects and conquer the age of technology. This class is geared for students in grades K-2.
Thursdays after school: Crime Scene Investigation (See description above.)
Video Game Animation Students will dive into the world of video game animation by creating characters that dance, sing and interact with one another. They'll add sound effects and music clips to create a dynamic video animation game using Scratch, the innovative programming language created just for kids by the MIT Media Lab. Creativity rules in this fun version of video game design. Class is for students in 2nd-4th grades.

Open Gym Schedule Open gym for grades 4 and up began in October. Open gym is free play basketball in the main gymnasium of the Rec. Center. Admission is by valid recreation card. The gym will be open for basketball Saturday afternoons from 2-4:30 p.m., for grades 4 and up. The evening open gym, for grades 6 and up, is from 7:30 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.
Pre School & Nursery School Openings There are a few openings in the Pre Kindergarten classes, for children entering kindergarten in Sept. 2009 and 2010. Call Peggy at (516) 678-9338 or 9339 for further information.
Aerobic Exercise - Aerobics classes are offered by Nancy's Aerobics on Mon., Tues. and Thurs. evenings from 7 p.m to 10 p.m.. Classes are on-going and can be paid for daily ($5 per person). Classes are conducted in the Rec Center gym.
Square Dancing - With nationally known caller Lee Kopman takes place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7 - 10 p.m. Fee: $5 per person. on-going.

Cancer Support Group: This new group seeks to provide caregivers with information, daily coping and caregiving strategies aimed at improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their caregivers. Special Needs Masses at St. Agnes Cathedral These Masses are especially for families with children who have developmental disabilities. Families with special needs children often find it difficult to attend weekly Mass together. These Masses give these families the opportunity to celebrate God's presence in their lives together. Children and adults with special needs will be filling as many liturgy positions as possible. All are invited to come take part in this special liturgy. The Masses are at 5 p.m., in the Lower Hall (which is handicapped accessible) on: Dec. 20, Jan. 24, Feb. 28, March 28, April 25 and May 30.
