The Molloy College Institute for Christian/Jewish Dialogue and the Molloy Repertory Company invite the community to attend a special performance of The Diary of Adam and Eve by Mark Twain, a play adapted for the stage by Mark Bucci on Dec. 7 at 3 p.m., in the Hays Theatre, Wilbur Arts Center on the Molloy College campus. Breakfast with Santa-s Helpers The Annual breakfast on Dec. 14 is one of the Recreation Center-s most popular events. All faiths are invited to join the elves who serve pancakes, cereal, juice, milk, rolls and bagels. After eating Vixen-s fixins, children may visit with Santa or have a picture taken with Rudolph and Frosty. Deadline for tickets is Dec. 12 for one of the three seatings at 9:15, 10:30 or 11:30 a.m. Fee: $5.00 per person and tickets are available at the Rec. Center.

Chanuplex and Community Menorah Candle Lighting. The entire community is invited to the third annual holiday celebration on Dec. 21 at Central Synagogue, 430 DeMott Ave. from 2:30-5:15. Activities include Music Together, arts and crafts, gym and games for the pre-school set. For older kids and teens, there will be games and DDR and Guitar Hero in the youth lounge. Adults can enjoy a choice of a short film , Women of the Wall, and discussion groups. Everyone can enjoy live music in the coffee house, Israeli dancing, the Chanukah house shop, tallit making and refreshments. The Annual Chanukah Party co-sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women is Dec. 22 from 4 to 5:15 p.m. All faiths are welcome.
First annual Joseph P. Altman Holiday Tournament Dec. 26 - Dec. 28 in the St. Agnes Parish gym. The St. Agnes CYO will be hosting the annual St. Agnes 6th grade CYO Boys Christmas Basketball Tournament, to be played in honor of Joseph Altman, former head of St. Agnes CYO, There will be up to 16 teams from the diocese, made up of 10-12 11-year-old boys. To raise money for the CYO program, sponsors will publish a commemorative journal. The community is invited to support the program and come out to root for the boys while watching great basketball. This month in recreation:
Computertots This program offers extraordinary computer education classes in which children will learn computer terminology and use. Children work on the computer in small groups with early childhood computer teachers and use a variety of exciting software and peripherals, such as a digital camera and a computer microscope. Children will develop self-confidence by using the computer as a tool for learning. Classes begin in January and run once a week. The classes are geared for ages 3-5 and run for 30 minutes. Mondays after school:
Build Something Cool That Moves Join the group as they explore, investigate and solve problems while learning about the building blocks of engineering simple machines. This exciting hands-on engineering class uses Lego Education materials to explore motorized simple machines by building realistic models. Students work in pairs to creatively solve challenges, using concepts learned in class. This class is for children in 2nd-4th grades. Note: No computers are used for this class.
Tuesdays after school:
Crime Scene Investigation Use logic, senses and forensic science to solve crimes. Learn how to work the field scene and the laboratory end of CSI. Students will use finger painting, tire tread patterns and more. Each lesson will focus on a new forensic skill which will lead to solving a final investigation. No blood, no gore... but excitement galore. Class is for students in 2nd-4th grades.
Totally Technology Build skills, create projects and have fun, too. Students will be introduced to a variety of technology programs and learn important technology skills, such as graphics, programming, the digital microscope and robotics, as they create their own projects and conquer the age of technology. This class is geared for students in grades K-2.
Thursdays after school: Crime Scene Investigation (See description above.)
Video Game Animation Students will dive into the world of video game animation by creating characters that dance, sing and interact with one another. They-ll add sound effects and music clips to create a dynamic video animation game using Scratch, the innovative programming language created just for kids by the MIT Media Lab. Creativity rules in this fun version of video game design. Class is for students in 2nd-4th grades.

Open Gym Schedule Open gym for grades 4 and up began in October. Open gym is free play basketball in the main gymnasium of the Rec. Center. Admission is by valid recreation card. The gym will be open for basketball Saturday afternoons from 2-4:30 p.m., for grades 4 and up. The evening open gym, for grades 6 and up, is from 7:30 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.
Pre School & Nursery School Openings There are a few openings in the Pre Kindergarten classes, for children entering kindergarten in Sept. 2009 and 2010. Call Peggy at (516) 678-9338 or 9339 for further information.
Food Donations Needed With the coming of winter, many of us are made aware of the needy in our community. We are asking our fellow residents to donate canned and dry goods, as well as frozen turkeys or turkey coupons, to be distributed to those less fortunate. Donations can be brought to the Rec. Center Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., prior to Thanksgiving.
Operation Christmas Child The Recreation Department is collected school supplies, toiletries and small games to send to children less fortunate. All donations must be in their original packaging. Collection times are Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., at the Rec. Center. Call (516) 678-9339 for more information. Donations are needed by early November.
Aerobic Exercise - Aerobics classes are offered by Nancy-s Aerobics on Mon., Tues. and Thurs. evenings from 7 p.m to 10 p.m.. Classes are on-going and can be paid for daily ($5 per person). Classes are conducted in the Rec Center gym.
Square Dancing - With nationally known caller Lee Kopman takes place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7 - 10 p.m. Fee: $5 per person. on-going.

Cancer Support Group: This new group seeks to provide caregivers with information, daily coping and caregiving strategies aimed at improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their caregivers. Advent Lessons and Carols at St. Agnes Cathedral - All are welcome on Dec. 7 at 3:30 p.m. as Bishop William Murphy presides over a 45-minute service that consists of Scripture readings, choral anthems and hymns. This centuries-old tradition is a unique way to celebrate the story of Jesus coming among the people. Singers from parishes all over the Diocese will come together to form the choir. Meeting Our Neighbors An Interfaith Series. The public is invited as the United Church of Rockville Centre, 430 Morris Ave., continues its interfaith program on other religions. White Gift Pageant The United Church of Rockville Centre extends an invitation to the community for a joyous celebration and re-enactment of the story of Christ-s birth on Dec. 14, at 5 p.m. The White Gift Pageant will be held in the church sanctuary at 430 Morris Ave., with performers attired in full costume and a custom designed set. The interactive pageant invites the audience to participate in the singing of traditional carols and to donate small gifts wrapped in plain white paper. The gifts will then be donated to the INN (Interfaith Nutritional Network), which provides gifts for their guests during the holidays. Special Needs Masses at St. Agnes Cathedral These Masses are especially for families with children who have developmental disabilities. Families with special needs children often find it difficult to attend weekly Mass together. These Masses give these families the opportunity to celebrate God-s presence in their lives together. Children and adults with special needs will be filling as many liturgy positions as possible. All are invited to come take part in this special liturgy. The Masses are at 5 p.m., in the Lower Hall (which is handicapped accessible) on: Dec. 20, Jan. 24, Feb. 28, March 28, April 25 and May 30.
