Book Signing - Don't You Get It? Living With Auditory Learning Disabilities 7 p.m. Nov. 14, at the Village Book Shoppe, 7 North Village Ave. An opportunity to attend a workshop and book signing with an author and contributing writers. This book defines auditory processing disorder in "user friendly terms" and allows readers to understand the differences between APD and Attention Deficit Disorder. Blood Drive Mercy Medical Center invites and encourages community members to donate and support Long Island Blood Services on Nov. 21, from 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. on the first floor of the St. Anne's building on the hospital campus.Anyone between the ages of 17 and 75 who is in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds can donate. Healthy individuals over 75 can donate blood if they present written permission from their physician obtained within two weeks of their donation. End-of-Life Care Seminar Molloy College, in collaboration with FEGS Health and Human Services System and other community partners, will host a seminar, "End of Life Care: Fostering an Interdisciplinary Team Approach," on Nov. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The conference will provide an opportunity for health and human service professionals to explore the key issues in end-of-life, or palliative, care. Nov. 8 Annual 10K (6.2 miles) and 5 K (3.1 miles) and Family Fun runs . Open Gym Schedule Open gym for grades 4 and up will begin Oct. 4. Open gym is free play basketball in the main gymnasium of the Rec. Center. Admission is by valid recreation card. The gym will be open for basketball Saturday afternoons from 2-4:30 p.m., starting Oct. 4. for grades 4 and up. The evening open gym, for grades 6 and up, will begin Oct. 3 and 4, from 7:30 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.

Food Donations Needed With the coming of winter, many of us are made aware of the needy in our community. We are asking our fellow residents to donate canned and dry goods, as well as frozen turkeys or turkey coupons, to be distributed to those less fortunate. Donations can be brought to the Rec. Center Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., prior to Thanksgiving.
Operation Christmas Child The Recreation Department is collected school supplies, toiletries and small games to send to children less fortunate. All donations must be in their original packaging. Collection times are Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., at the Rec. Center. Call (516) 678-9339 for more information. Donations are needed by early November.
Aerobic Exercise - Aerobics classes are offered by Nancy's Aerobics on Mon., Tues. and Thurs. evenings from 7 p.m to 10 p.m.. Classes are on-going and can be paid for daily ($5 per person). Classes are conducted in the Rec Center gym.

Thanksgiving Day Service First Church of Christ, Scientist, 285 Morris Ave. Nov. 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Child care will be provided.
Special Needs Masses at St. Agnes Cathedral have resumed. These Masses are especially for families with children who have developmental disabilities. Families with special needs children often find it difficult to attend weekly Mass together. These Masses give these families the opportunity to celebrate God's presence in their lives together. Children and adults with special needs will be filling as many liturgy positions as possible. All are invited to come and to be a part of this special liturgy. The Masses will be held at 5 p.m., in the Lower Hall which is handicapped accessible. The schedule of Masses is: Nov. 22, Dec. 20, Jan. 24, Feb. 28, March 28, April 25 and May 30.

drop hed: Village, American Legion, Sandel Center to hold Veterans Day observances
The American Legion will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony this coming Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in front of the Recreation Center, 111 N. Oceanside Road.
Following the ceremony the American Legion will serve refreshments at American Legion Hall, 197 Maple Ave.
Later that day, at 1:45 p.m, the village will co-name a portion of Greystone Road "1st Lt. Ronald D. Winchester USMC Road" in honor of the marine officer and Rockville Centre native, pictured here, who was killed in the Iraq War on Sept. 3, 2004.
The ceremony will take place at the corner of Greystone and Winding roads, which will be closed to traffic from noon to 3 p.m. In case of heavy rain, the ceremony will be moved to the Recreation Center on North Oceanside Road.
And at noon the next day, Nov. 12, the Men's Club of the Sandel Senior Center will host a luncheon celebrating the many contributions of our veterans. The community is invited to attend this luncheon which is $5 per person and $6 at the door. Call (516) 678-9359 to reserve a spot.
