Candy Drive for Troops Overseas Dr. Michael Rechter of Long Island Dental Excellence, 165 N. Village Ave., Suite 209, is sponsoring the 2nd annual Halloween Treats for Troops Candy Drive on Nov. 3 from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. -noon. The donated candy, which must be wrapped, will be sent by the office to our troops serving overseas. Food Donations Needed With the coming of winter, many of us are made aware of the needy in our community. We are asking our fellow residents to donate canned and dry goods, as well as frozen turkeys or turkey coupons, to be distributed to those less fortunate. Donations can be brought to the Rec. Center Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., prior to Thanksgiving.
Operation Christmas Child The Recreation Department is collected school supplies, toiletries and small games to send to children less fortunate. All donations must be in their original packaging. Special Needs Masses at St. Agnes Cathedral have resumed. These Masses are especially for families with children who have developmental disabilities. Families with special needs children often find it difficult to attend weekly Mass together. These Masses give these families the opportunity to celebrate God's presence in their lives together. Children and adults with special needs will be filling as many liturgy positions as possible. All are invited to come and to be a part of this special liturgy. hed: RVC Community Fund to host 'enchanting' luncheon
The Rockville Centre Community Fund is sponsoring a new fundraising event for the whole family.
The Enchanted Winterland, on Nov. 16 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Best Western hotel on Sunrise Highway will feature a sit-down luncheon with a Victorian/Edwardian flair.
Special guest Leighton H. Coleman III will present a slide show and talk on the true story of the toy bear that survived the sinking of the Titanic and a discussion on preserving family history.
Other attractions include the 100-item Bevilacqua collection of variously themed bears, some of which are pictured at right, a display of fashions and toys from Rockville Centre's past from the Phillips House Museum, and raffles and shopping.
All proceeds will benefit the RVC Community Fund.
