Pumpkins for Sale The annual Pumpkin Patch at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 200 Hempstead Ave., arrived Oct. 4. The patch will be open daily through Halloween, Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. until dusk, and Sundays from noon through dusk. Volunteers are needed. Vendors are also wanted for the garage and craft sales and flea markets scheduled for Oct. 19. Special activities and events include "The Haunting," on Oct. 25 from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. Come and pick out your pumpkins, gourds and holiday decorations. "Meeting Our Neighbors" - An Interfaith Series. St. Agnes 46th Annual Parish Celebration Oct. 25 from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Parish Center on N. Village Avenue. Candy Drive for Troops Overseas Dr. Michael Rechter of Long Island Dental Excellence, 165 N. Village Ave., Suite 209, is sponsoring the 2nd annual Halloween Treats for Troops Candy Drive on Nov. 3 from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. -noon. The donated candy, which must be wrapped, will be sent by the office to our troops serving overseas. Residents of the community with a friend or family member serving overseas may request that a care package be sent, free of charge to their loved one. Provide the name and complete mailing address at the time of donation or email it to treatsfortroops@gmail.com by Nov. 6. Everyone making a donation is encouraged to write a letter, make a card or draw a picture to be sent in each care package. Blood Drive Mercy Medical Center invites and encourages community members to donate and support Long Island Blood Services on Nov. 21, from 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. on the first floor of the St. Anne's building on the hospital campus.Anyone between the ages of 17 and 75 who is in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds can donate. Healthy individuals over 75 can donate blood if they present written permission from their physician obtained within two weeks of their donation. Donors should have eaten and should bring reading glasses and ID with signature, and know their Social Security number. Oct. 24 Sen. Skelos' Golden Gathering at the Rec. Center from 9 a.m - 1 p.m.. A morning of demonstrations and information focused on the interests and needs of senior citizens. Free flu vaccinations will be offered.
Oct. 26 -Halloween Costume Parade and Party Youngsters from pre K and up and their parents and families are invited to Rockville Centre's 18th Annual Halloween Costume Parade and Party. The parade starts at the Village Green, Maple and Lee avenues, at 2 p.m. and proceeds east on Maple Ave. to the Rec. Center. At the center, there will be games of chance, fun and prizes for the costumed marchers. Pre-registration is a must. Fee: $5 per family. In case of rain, the parade will be cancelled, but the party will take place at 3 p.m. at the Rec. Center.
Oct. 31 Goblin Calls The Goblin may call you on Halloween evening. If you are one of the lucky ones, you will receive a prize from the goblin. Goblin call slips will be available at the party. Deposit slips in the special boxes provided.
Nov. 8 Annual 10K (6.2 miles) and 5 K (3.1 miles) and Family Fun runs . Open Gym Schedule Open gym for grades 4 and up will begin Oct. 4. Open gym is free play basketball in the main gymnasium of the Rec. Center. Admission is by valid recreation card. The gym will be open for basketball Saturday afternoons from 2-4:30 p.m., starting Oct. 4. for grades 4 and up. The evening open gym, for grades 6 and up, will begin Oct. 3 and 4, from 7:30 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.

Food Donations Needed With the coming of winter, many of us are made aware of the needy in our community. We are asking our fellow residents to donate canned and dry goods, as well as frozen turkeys or turkey coupons, to be distributed to those less fortunate. Donations can be brought to the Rec. Center Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., prior to Thanksgiving.
Operation Christmas Child The Recreation Department is collected school supplies, toiletries and small games to send to children less fortunate. All donations must be in their original packaging. Collection times are Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., at the Rec. Center. Call (516) 678-9339 for more information. Donations are needed by early November.
Aerobic Exercise - Aerobics classes are offered by Nancy's Aerobics on Mon., Tues. and Thurs. evenings from 7 p.m to 10 p.m.. Classes are on-going and can be paid for daily ($5 per person). Classes are conducted in the Rec Center gym.

Special Needs Masses at St. Agnes Cathedral have resumed. These Masses are especially for families with children who have developmental disabilities. Families with special needs children often find it difficult to attend weekly Mass together. These Masses give these families the opportunity to celebrate God's presence in their lives together. Children and adults with special needs will be filling as many liturgy positions as possible. All are invited to come and to be a part of this special liturgy. The Masses will be held at 5 p.m., in the Lower Hall which is handicapped accessible. The schedule of Masses is: Oct. 25, Nov. 22, Dec. 20, Jan. 24, Feb. 28, March 28, April 25 and May 30.
