New members welcome. The RVC Choral Society has started rehearsals on Wednesday nights at 7:30 p.m. at St Mark's Church. They have openings for all voices and encourage anyone who has an interest in music and singing to join the community-based group. There is a Winter concert in December and a Spring concert in May. ABWA Dinner Meeting-The Long Island Chapter of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) will hold its next dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Alias Smith and Jones Restaurant in Oceanside. Fly me to the moon madness Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City will be hosting various family activities in celebration of the new IMAX family movie "Fly Me to the Moon" the story of a group of stowaway flies on the first Apollo mission to the moon. Families will be able to try on a real space suit, play a game of interplanetary twister and flyswatter badminton. Activities are free with admission to the museum or ticket to "Fly Me to the Moon, the IMAX Experience". Nursery School Openings -
There are limited openings in the Fall 2008 nursery school classes for children entering kindergarten in Sept. 2009 and 2010. Classes follow the RVC public school holiday schedule. Call Peggy at (516) 678-9339 for registration information.
Fall Program Registration Registration is now being accepted for the Fall programs that begin the week of Sept. 15. All registrations are first-come, first served and all participants must have a valid 2008-2009 Recreation Dept. membership card.. Detailed flyers are available at the Rec. Center of by calling (516) 678-9339. New programs offered this year include Pre-kindergarten enrichment, Yoga for 4-year-olds, Intro. to Guitar for children and adults, Dodgeball and "Lettuce be Healthy."
Part-time positions available. Part-time workers are needed for swimming, gymnastics and birthday parties. If you are over 16 or an adult looking for part-time employment and have good people skills, you are encouraged to apply at the Rec Centre.
Kids' Fest Sept. 13. The annual Kids' Fest open house celebration at the Rec Center is scheduled for Sept. 13 from noon- 4 p.m. Representatives from all the village's sports organizations will attend, as well as the Rockville Centre Police, and Fire departments, the Post Office, the Library, Guild for the Arts, the Lions Club and many more.
Open The Har-Tru courts adjacent to the Rec Center opened the last week of April. Courts are available seven days a week from 8 a.m. until dark. All players must register and pay a fee.
Open Gym Schedule - For grades 4 and up. Open gym is free play basketball in the main gymnasium of the Rec Center with a valid recreation card. The gym will be open for basketball every Saturday afternoon from 2 - 4:30 p.m. for grades 4 and up; evening open gym for grades 6 and up will be held on Fridays and Saturdays from 7:30 - 10:15 p.m.
Aerobic Exercise - Aerobics classes are offered by Nancy's Aerobics on Mon., Tues. and Thurs. evenings from 7 p.m to 10 p.m.. Classes are on-going and can be paid for daily ($5 per person). Classes are conducted in the Rec Center gym.
Square Dancing - With nationally known caller Lee Kopman takes place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7 - 10 p.m. Fee: $5 per person. on-going.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Prostate Cancer - New Treatments, New Technology, New Hope! Sept. 16 at 11 am. Doctors from SNCH will be on hand to discuss prostate cancer, the uses of radiation and other treatment options. A prostate cancer survivor will discuss his experiences. This lecture is open to all members of the community.

Selichot Service - Temple B'nai Sholom is preparing for the upcoming High Holy Day season which begins with a special pre-Rosh Hashanah service called Selichot, which ushers in the period of prayer and repentance. This year it will be held jointly with neighboring Conservative synagogues at the Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead, 711 Dogwood Avenue, Sept. 20 at 9 p.m. The guest speaker will be B'nai Sholom's Rabbi, Barry Dov Schwartz, who will offer a slide presentation on his recent trip to the Jews of Cuba. Events at Central Synagogue - On Sept. 20 the temple is having a joint Selichot Service with Temple Emanuel of Lynbrook and Temple Sinai of Lawrence in Lynbrook at One Saperstein Plaza, Lynbrook. The program is at 9 p.m., reception at 10 p.m. and service at 10:30 p.m.

Special Needs Mass. The Parish of St. Agnes Cathedral would like to welcome all to a Mass for special needs children and their families. The Mass, held regularly during the spring, will resume in the fall. They take place in the lower hall of the St. Agnes Cathedral Elementary School. There will be more monthly "Special Needs" Masses especially for families with children who have developmental difficulties who might find it difficult to attend weekly Mass together. This gives them the opportunity to celebrate God's presence in their lives together.
