Rockville Centre Chapter of Homemakers will began their new season at the John A. Anderson Recreation Center on Oceanside Rd. Holiday drive for pets- Bide-A-Wee Home Association is holding its third annual holiday drive for less fortunate pets. Donations needed are unopened dog and/or cat food and treats, new dog and/or cat toys, brushes and cat litter. Please drop off your donations in the holiday drive bins located in the Wantagh Adoption center or clinic lobbies, 3300 Beltagh Ave., between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m no later than Dec. 15. Chanukah party- Children from pre-kindergarten through second grade of all faiths are invited to the annual party, sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women and the recreation department, on Monday, Dec. 19 from 4 - 5:15 p.m. There will be crafts, face painting, snacks and Chanukah music at the recreation center. Children are encouraged to donate a small, unwrapped gift.
"Alive in New York, A Growing Invasion"- The Center for science teaching and learning invites you to view artwork on display through December 23rd Saturdays through Wednesdays, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. There will be more than 40 watercolor paintings of invasive plant species and non-invasive alternatives. Casino trip- Oceanside Hadassah will sponsor a casino trip to Mohegan Sun on Sunday, Jan. 15, bus leaves at 9a.m. For $36 you will get six hours of casino time and many give backs from Mohegan Sun. Proceeds go to Hadassah College. For further details call (516) 764-0459.

Picture This! Art Workshop- takes place on Thursday Dec. 15 from 4-5 p.m. The workshop is for children in Grades 1-3 and it combines the wealth of art in picture books, as well as "art masterpieces." with hands-on activities.
Children's Corner- "Tot Time" for 2 to 3 year-old children with a parent or caregiver are Mondays and Fridays at 9:30 a.m. "Terrific Threes" for 3-year old who are ready to separate are Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. or Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. "Picture Book Parade" for 4 year-old children are Mondays at 1:30 p.m. or Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. "Kinder Kids" for those in kindergarten are Wednesdays at 4 p.m. "Books Before Bedtime" is for 3 to 5 year old children on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. "Rhyme Time" for babies 4 months old to 14 months old is held Fridays at 9:30 a.m.
Afternoon at the Opera Series featuring Bernie Mann will take place on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. Join popular Library presenter and opera afficionado Bernie Mann for afternoons featuring CD excerpts from Opera's including Verdi's "The Masked Ball" and "La Traviata."
Yoga- Liza and Dawn will incorporate stories and yoga postures. Children will depict the characters in the story through various animal poses and things in nature. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel or yoga mat with them. Do not eat at least one hour before class, Dec. 16 at 4:30 p.m. for children in grades 1-3.
Photo exhibit- During the month of December, photographs by John S. Brokos will be on display in the Concourse Gallery, located on the lower level of the library. His photographs include nature subjects, but he also specializes in fine art pictorial work. Over the past 30 years, he has judged more than 800 photo competitions, including 17 international exhibitions, and given over 1000 presentations on photography. He is currently the president of the Freeport Color Camera Club.
Art exhibit- During the month of December, paintings by Linda Levitus will be on exhibit in the Internet Gallery, located above the computers on the main floor library. Her work has been shown across Long Island, and her paintings are part of private collections from new York to Florida.
Wood Turners art display- During the month of December, members of the Long Island Wood Turners Association will display their works in the Main Floor Showcases. The exhibit includes nearly forty pieces of work done by more than twenty members of this club. On view are hollow forms, natural edge pieces and bowls in a variety of woods both local and tropical.
