Lynbrook High School junior Maggie Neal has been selected to attend the Robert W. Greene Summer Institute for High School Journalists. She was one of only 20 students to be chosen from the hundreds who apply each year. The week-long program is hosted at Stony Brook University and is provided free of charge for all those accepted.

“Since Maggie is one of the best high school journalists I’ve encountered, I encouraged her to apply to this program,” said her journalism teacher Jessica Sanders. Maggie will follow in the footsteps of Max Fin (Grouchevski), a graduate of LHS’s class of 2010 who was also selected to be a part of this program.

The Institute was established as a last request by Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter and editor Robert W. Greene, who dreamed of establishing a “boot camp” for high school journalists at Stony Brook University.

The intensive, residential summer workshop will take place from July 24 through 30. The workshop will introduce students to basic skills in news reporting, writing, editing and using video. Students will live at the university and work in the School of Journalism’s multimedia newsroom under the instruction of professional journalists. As a culminating activity, students will produce original work across several media platforms.
