One dead after Jerusalem Ave. crash in Merrick

Police: No criminality suspected

A 51-year-old man is dead after a two-car accident in Merrick early Monday morning.

According to Nassau County police, at 7:23 a.m., the man, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla eastbound in the left lane of Jerusalem Avenue, at North Jerusalem Road, swerved into the right lane and hit a 2009 Jeep Liberty driving in the same direction.

Both vehicles collided with a pole on the south side of the roadway, police said. The man was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:58 a.m., while the 40-year-old female driver of the jeep, and her 14-year-old passenger, were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The identification of the deceased driver is being withheld until police can notify the family, and there is no criminality suspected as of yet, police said.
