O'side teacher made math fun Jack Frisco, 55, loses battle to cancer

      Frisco, 55, had been a long-time Oceanside resident, and remained in the community to the end. He leaves behind his wife, Anne Marie, and daughter Danielle.
      Frisco began his teaching career in 1971 at Merle Avenue Junior High School.
      "He was a great guy, and he had just a great zest for life," said Joan Friel, who started her career with Frisco.
      Former students say that Frisco would make his classroom comfortable. "He would always make a joke just to lighten the mood," said former student Jacalyn Schuit. "Math in the 80's with Jack Frisco was taught with the utmost respect for children." Schuit had her childhood idol three times for math. "He is my hero. He was an iron superman."
      Every Halloween, Frisco would come to OHS in an unusual, yet creative costume. "I remember one year he came home with plaid material and asked me if I could make a kilt so he could be Braveheart," his wife said. In other years he dressed up as a cheerleader, and in 2000 after enduring hours of chemotherapy he showed up at school dressed as Uncle Fester from the Adams Family.
