Because the annual Breakfast for Valedictorians and Salutatorians hosted by the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents was canceled this year, Oyster Bay High School Principal Sharon Lasher decided to host her own.
Set up in front of the school were socially distanced tables draped in purple tablecloths
for valedictorian Aavi Gupta, his parents and salutatorian Julia Cutajar and her parents, as well as for Oyster Bay East Norwich Central School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laura Seinfeld and Lasher.
Earlier that morning, Seinfeld said she was thrilled to receive in the mail the plaques that would have been presented to the students at the breakfast. “I feel as though it is a sign of hope that I received these plaques in time to present to you today,” Seinfeld said.
She and Lasher both expressed how disappointing it was that the breakfast was canceled, but were happy to provide an alternate, and perhaps more memorable, way to honor the district’s top students.
