Parade honors those who died for freedom

Posted
The second annual combined parade of the Bellmores was kicked off and capped off with two memorial services in tribute to those who died for America's freedom. Before the start of the parade, a service was held at the North Bellmore monument in front of Newbridge Road School, and another at the other at the veterans' memorial on Pettit Avenue at the end of the event. A variety of community groups, ranging from Cub Scouts to the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores, offered wreaths in honor of those who lost their lives in war.
Representatives of the various armed services from past wars and the current Iraq conflict marched in the procession. This year's parade grand marshal was Town of Hempstead Clerk Mark Bonilla of Bellmore.
Other groups that took part included the Wellington C. Mepham and John F. Kennedy high school bands, three blended bands made up of students from the six North Bellmore elementary schools, the Bellmore and North Bellmore fire departments, the Ford Model A club, and several Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.
