Perfection, part two FS team take top spot in District 29

One year after becoming the first team in this age category to win the championship in Franklin Square Little League's history, they swept the season for the repeat despite having only three starters (Vinny Valvo, Vinny Maietta and Ryan Garcia) returning from last's year's team. The team took the championship with a nail-biting pitcher's duel against Garden City, eking out a pair of runs in a 2-0 victory. Neither team made an error and only two walks were issued the entire game. "There are only two kinds of players: selfish ones and team players," said Franklin Square manager Lou Maietta. "I had 14 great team-players that played great defense, pitched great and pulled for each other on every pitch."
Along the way, Franklin Square knocked-off Roosevelt, Carle Place, Floral Park, Garden City and Garden City South to stay atop the division. Up next for the team is a run for the state championship. District 29 includes 15 teams in southern Nassau.
