The Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department responded to a car accident on Lido Boulevard and Harrogate Street around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
One eyewitness said the female driver lost control of the Silver Honda she was operating along the snow-covered road and crashed into a tree.
The accident happened on a day that The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow and sleet for the area, which went into effect at 10 a.m. Wednesday and was expected to last until 6 a.m. on Thursday.
Bill Bennett, a Baldwin resident and freelance photographer who was at the scene, described the road conditions as slippery and icy. Bennett said the driver refused medical attention.
“She seemed very concerned about the accident, but she wasn’t upset,” Bennett said. “[Firefighters] did put her on a stretcher and into the ambulance. [But] she refused medical attention, so they did not take her to the hospital.”
Bennett estimated that firefighters were on scene for 20 to 25 minutes. Point Lookout-Lido Fire Brian Guerin was not immediately available for comment.
