Polar Bears netted $21k for Make-a-Wish

      It's unbelievable, said Polar Bear swim co-founder Pete Meyers. From a couple of knuckleheads, and have it amount to this!
      Those two knuckleheads were Meyers and Kevin McCarthy, who first took the winter ocean swim several years ago by themselves, then invited their friends the following year. Last year the brave crowd grew to nearly 100, and this past February's swim saw nearly 300 people rush into the cold waters.
      Last year's swim was the first that the founders decided to do as a fund-raiser, raising several thousand dollars for Make-a-Wish. This year's T-shirt sales and donations rang the register up to $21,686.02.
      You take a cool town with good energy, a real knucklehead event like the Polar Bear swim, and a good charity and you end up with a great event, Meyers said.
      In a recent letter from Make-a-Wish, the organization informed the good deed dippers of the end result of their efforts. The wishes granted for Lauren, Carla and Nicole by Polar Bear funds were as follows:
