A Massapequa man was arrested on Aug. 31 after he allegedly operated his boat while intoxicated, steering it onto Nickerson Beach and injuring a female passenger.

Fourth Precinct police arrested Vincent Savarese, 28, on Monday, Aug. 31 at 12:20 a.m., after responding to an emergency call for a female passenger who suffered a severe laceration to her leg.

After an investigation, detectives charged Savarese with second-degree reckless endangerment and boating while intoxicated, both Class A misdemeanors. Detectives said Savarese operated his boat off Lido Beach under the influence and, as a result, the vessel ultimately collided onto Nickerson Beach and injured one of three passengers.

The 29-year-old female passenger from East Setauket who was hurt was taken to a nearby hospital by a Point Lookout Fire Department ambulance. Police said two other passengers, a 28-year-old male and 29-year-old female, did not require medical attention.

Savarese’s boat was impounded, and he was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Aug. 31.
