"She told the hospital that her mother would be bringing the baby to the hospital," said Daub, who explained that Allen's mother lives on the island of Jamaica.Police rushed to the Elmont home only to make the grisly discovery. Daub said that other adults were present - though asleep - in the house, but did not know about the delivery or that Allen was even pregnant.Daub said that Allen took the baby, placed it in a plastic bag, tied it up, placed the bag in a backpack and hid it behind her bed. After Allen took a shower, Daub said, she took a cab to the Medical Center because she continued to bleed after the full-term birth.Police said that Allen had been living on Fallon Avenue for the past 10 months with her brother and several other people. Police believe the father, whose relationship with Allen is still unclear, is probably living in Jamaica. Daub said Allen, a native of Jamaica, had visited the island earlier this year.Assistant District Attorney Fred Klein said that Allen was arraigned at her hospital bed at the Medical Center, where she was still recovering from the birth. The charges were brought against her after the Oct. 20 autopsy concluded that the infant had been alive when it was placed in the bag."There were other adults in the house, but she did not notify anybody," Klein said. "She did not seek any aid for the baby." Police said Allen told them that she believed the baby was already dead before she hid her.Allen, who attended Nassau Community College, has been living in America for at least two years, Daub said.
